Default right rear turn signal takes 5 minutes to start working

Hi all,

I have searched and found that peoples blinkers will blink faster which means there may be a short in the wiring,a bad ground or a light that is burning out, but I have yet to find anything like this.

The rear left turn signal works great, but the right rear turn signal takes about 5 to 10 minutes of driving to start working. I Don't understand why it starts working after 5-10 minutes, and continues to work until I turn the car off and get to my destination.

Anyone have any ideas? Apparently the guy I bought the car from a week ago had just replaced the harness.

EDIT: My vehicle is a 1992 civic Si hatch.
Thanks guys.

Do you mean it turns on but does not blink, or does not even turn on?

Either way, I would start by swapping bulbs, left to right to elliminate the bulb as the problem.

Next I would check both power and ground at the bulb socket, check connection to the taillight housing.94

The light doesn't turn on at all for 5-10 minutes, causing the fast blinker on the cluster. Then after I've been driving for a little while it'll blink properly on the cluster, as well as work as it should as a blinking light.

I swapped the bulbs and the problem still occurs but it doesn't take as long anymore for the bulb to start blinking, only takes a few minutes now.

Do you have a diagram as to where the rear tail light harness grounds? I'm not entirely sure. Do I have to take off the whole plastic portion of the trunk to access it?

Cheers,

Matt.

Perhaps there is a problem with the turn signal switch,or a relay for the lights...

If it was the switch, both front and rear would be effected, if it was the flasher/relay it would effect both front and read and left and right.

Check ground at the bulb housing itself, [that is what I mean by checking the ground] the ground for all the tail lights is common, found behind rear trim panel on most Honda/Acura.

Because changing the bulb made a diff. I am pretty sure your problem is in the bulb socket itself.

Try this, remove bulb spray socket and bulb with WD40, install and remove bulb a number of times, [to clean contacts] and see whhat happens. 94
