Default 98 Civic EX Scarebird Conversion

Has anyone done this conversion to rear discs using the scarebird brackets? I believe I have every single part I need to do it and have the car torn down and the rear drums off. Im using 99-00 SI everything for the rear.

My questions are which way should the calipers orient? parking brake mechanism up or down? How do the parking brake cables mount up? Need some guidance fast. My car needs to be on the road by Sunday. Thanks all.

Does it NOT have a guide on the Screbird website? I would swear that it does. With pictures and everything.

Yes it does.

What picture is tripping you up? Especially since it looks like these only bolt on one way.

Im looking at it right now. One could say vague.. It looks like the mechanism is on the bottom in the picture. But they dont give any info on what to do with the e-brake cables.

They look like they should mount to something near the caliper itself. Or am I seeing things. Just attach it to the handle, normal mounting positions of the drum cables, and attach to mechanism with clevis pin and cotter?

How vague is it? 3 bolts and install the spindle. They don't mention e-brake cables because their kit HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH E-BRAKE CABLES!!!

I understand that. I have everything mounted BUT the e-brake cables and that is my question.

Your thread title all kinds of wrong and misleading. So is your first post.

The calipers SHOULD BE labelled left or right. At the very least they have some kinds of part number/markings on them. I know because I have a 93 'teg conversion sitting on my garage floor.

The calipers do have L and R on them. But putting the L caliper on the left side of the vehicle has the parking brake mechanism on top of the caliper.

they are obviously marked L and R for that for a reason. But scarebirds are upside down. And dont understand why the end of the ebrake cable looks like it should be held in place by a clip. That would be at the other end of the rubber boot. I know the end goes to the mechanism by clevis pin and cotter.

^^THIS! At the bottom left of the third image. Where the springy rubber boot mounts to with a clip. My caliper does not have this? Is it needed.

Just wondering why you're having such issues when no one has ever had them before?
Example.

because my calipers did not come with part number 25 and 35 in the picture. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...AKE+%28DISK%29

Im under the impression that it is needed or the ebrake wont work properly.

Hrm. All this and it wasn't even a Scarebird issue.

You sure you have REAR calipers?

Yes mine are the same. But there are threaded holes which I have circled in red. There is a bracket that is supposed to bolt onto the caliper there. The ebrake runs through it and is held in place by the same style clip as a brake hose.. Mine doesnt have those brackets and I am asking are they needed?

To be real honest I'm not going to say either way. Never run into your situation before and I don't know if there's any way to install/rig these so that bracket is not necessary so I have to let someone else verify it.

Sorry.

Stay inside man. I live in PA I know all about the cold. If I do need those brackets I am screwed, since everything I want/need takes at least a day to get from the local dealership. And they're closed on Sundays.

But thanks for the help/constructive criticism Grumble.

I know they are supposed to be on most civics that are oem with rear discs. Verified part numbers. http://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine...7-SH3-931.html

I went anyway. The have that bracket. I guess you're supposed to reuse them from old brackets if you have them.

DAMN!!! Yea without being able to ratchet the ebrake before bleeding and everything, I think my rear brakes arent working which is why my pedal goes all the way to the floor unless I pump them. Cant drive the car like that. Gonna have to call the dealership in the morning and get those ordered.

sounds like you have air in the lines. the parking brake mechanism has no effect on the pedal.

yes theres a bracket that bolts to those holes, which just holds the cables in place. they then attatch to the bracked with the spring that is touching the bottom of your circle. it slides onto that tab and then a pin goes thru it.

did u get ebrake cables for the rear disc? i dont think the original cables from the drums will work with the calipers. its been a VERY long time since ive done a conversion but i think that is the case.

Yea I didnt do everything myself. It ended up being the front calipers were reversed.... Took a few days to figure that out.

I did get brand new 00 civic si ebrake cables. Then had to buy the pin and cotter key that holds it to the spring because it didnt come with the cable. Then the bolts and that bracket which do not come with calipers. It's all sitting in the garage, just havent had time to crawl under and replace.

POR-15 Caliper paint kit came in today.
