Something to do with oil control, I can't remember the exact term for that part in peticular, but it also has and o-ring that should be replaced while it's out. Yes, you do need it.

PCT pistons...can't wait to see how long this one lasts.

it's an oil jet. if you left it out you would have low oil pressure.

Honda calls it an oil control orifice. It is used on Non VTEC blocks to restrict the flow of oil into the head. If you have a non VTEC block and are using a VTEC head. You have to remove that in order to feed the appropriate amount of oil to the VTEC system in the head.

Never heard of anyone removing it before. I've always been under the impression that the external oil line that is run on ls vtec style engines to the head was for getting enough oil for vtec to work. I've never removed it, and I've never had any problems. I'm also pretty sure vtec blocks have them as well. I'll look at my service manual tomorrow to satisfy my own curiousness.

I'll have to admit that I don't work on B series engines. Not sure what the B/D series guys do. Maybe it is different than the F & H series. The F/H have both Non VTEC and VTEC engines that use the same blocks. Using an oil control orifice was Honda's way of making the switch between the two heads simple. Maybe the VTEC heads you guys use don't have the ports that line up. That would be the only reason I could see to run external oil lines.

F series VTEC swap you just remove that orifice and bolt on the head. no need for any external oil lines to operate VTEC.

Anywho, that is what that part is called whether or not you can remove it to activate VTEC I am unsure. Acura part description is; ORIFICE ASSY., OIL CONTROL - 15140-PR3-000

Well, we (b-series guys) have to block off an oil passage in the head(back left corner) that doesn't line up with the block when doing an ls vtec style engine. That is the reason for the external line that generally runs off of a sandwich plate between the oil filter and block. With out that, there is no way to get enough oil to the head for vtec to function. In my experience, that little orifice is left alone.

After looking at a B18A block and a B18C head.... The pressurized oil port (oil control orifice location) on the surface of the block is in the same location as an oil feed port on the B18C1 head. Guess that isn't the one that feeds the VTEC ports though! Learn something new everyday. Thanks
