Random car dying while driving problem
Recently my car has decided it wants to die while driving. First start ups are no problem and it wont die until after 30 miles on the road or more. Give it about 10-15 minutes, and it will start up just fine and drive again until same problems. No cel codes. Fuel pressure is fine. I have a jdm b16 swap. I have my fuel gauge mounted off my filter and it never got under 35 running, not, or cranking over. Leads me to believe something electrical is getting hot then shutting down until the car cools off along with the electrical part. Im gonna change the coil and the main relay. Anyone have problems like mine and end up with a bad coil or relay as well? I cant test anything cause the problem is intermittent and since its my daily driver, and cant afford to wait until it just dies completly and wont start just to test what maybe bad. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Not overheating. new coolant, filled and no air in the system, gauge is worrking correctly. Im gonna replace the coil and even know i can hear the main relay clicking when i turn the key, im gonna replace that to. unfortunayly i just dont have the time to eliminate things one by one. Thanks guys. ill let you know how things turn out.

well i have had two issues with these cars the coil and the alternator going out to cause it to die. If your running hotter plugs than stock size on your plugs than that burns up your coil. At around 220k miles the alternator needs replaced. also hondas have sometimes a ground on your thermostat cover that could be loose or correded

check the grounds, the main culprit is the ground connector on the main harness to the thermostat housing, it is the only ground to the ECU, if the bolt is loose, it will drop the connection momentarily, killing the engine.

Well i replaced the main relay and the coil, i think it may have been money not well spent. Tried the wiggling the ignition, no change. After the 1st 3 minutes after i fired it up, i felt a hesitation, then it died. It started right back up. I let it run at idle giving it a rev now and then for a good 20 minutes or so and it never died again. Ran it down the road just a few miles, it seemed to run ok, but still get the feeling i havnt found the problem. So theres a ecu ground at the thermostat housing? Anyone have a pic on location and what pin on the ecu it is, obd0? Dont wanna sound to stupid, but im still getting used to working on the hondas, esp one with this jdm b16 swap. Thanks.

Ok, i searched and found the info on the thermo housing. I will definitly check that. It has been raining alot here lately, so im hoping you nailed it. Although my crappy work hours, i wont get to check it till saturday. Im out the door for work at 420am and not back till almost dark. I have my garage, but im just to beat most the time to wanna do anything when i get home but eat, feed my dogs, shower and spend a few with the wife. But thanks, ill let you guys know how it goes. Really happy i have an extra main relay and coil (sarcastic).
If picture shows its the bolt they done loosened on thermostat housing. I moved my ground off thermostat to another location. Its a obd0 in your car. if it throws a code then count the led blinks. the computer is under passenger side carpet under dash. Try resetting your computer by unhooking your power wire on your battery as well.
Thanks fpr the pic. I looked at mine lastnight, only groung on mine is bolted right on top of the thermo housing. Ill look agian but i believe thats the only one. Thres no codes being thrown, that was one of the 1st things I checked. I should be able to get out there tomorrow and clean up that ground. It didnt look dirty to the eye, but ill pull the bolt and clean up the connection and mount, and try again, lol. Thanks for the help. What pin location is the thermostat housing ground at the ecu?

your welcome i worked on cars for 12 yrs now. I got a mini me swap to rebuild but yeah wiring issues are a pain. but that ground goes to the engine fuse panel not to the ecu the harness leads off ecu. check grounds there too.
Im all out of ideas. I cleaned the thermostat ground, replaced the distributor cap(just the cap cause i had a misfire problem about a month ago, did a full tune up, rotor was the problem, but the cap i didnt get cause the new one at the store was broken out the box). I ran some new grounds awhile back with heavy gauge wire, checked all of those. Only other problem ive noticed latley which i wouldnt think would have anything to do with my main problem is the cold start doesnt seem to be working anymore. It doesnt idle high then back down after warm up like it once used to. Ive been more focused on the main problem. Its either been raining or its been cold, which i hate worse, to get much work done. I still have yet to check the harness connections under the hood, other than that, i have no idea anymore. Just wondering, is there a fuel pump relay somewhere? Thanks.

No relays that I know of. My ef had fuel pump problems at half tank. But my car is a manual. So what's it acting like? Does it start up fine? Does it drive fine and just die?
Hasn't died since i replaced and did what i stated above. I did that stuff sat, and been driving it to work and back both mon and tues, which is a 54 mile trip one way for me, with no dying or stalling. I gotta go through my harness connections and my relays and everything else, clean them up and grease the connections. Even know it seems to be running fine for now, im still not convinced. It poured down here for several days, thats why im believing a bad electrical connection somewhere due to moisture.
