k20z1 and a2 trans into 02 ep3
I have an 02 civic SiR (canadian) and was planning on doing a k20a2 swap, with the six speed. I found a motor, tranny, and wiring harness from a junk yard out of an 03 rsx-s. But when I picked it up and checked the stamp on the block, its a z1, so it must have been previously swapped. I did some more research before I left with it, and got the guy to knock a few hundred off the price because I might need a few parts. When I got home, I checked the tranny code, and it is an a2 tranny, so I shouldnt have any vss issue. I am going to k pro my computer (don't care about reverse lockout), and I dont see any modification to the wire harness, so I assume its from the car, not the motor. I am going to attempt next week to plug my ecu in, just to see if the plugs are the same, that's the only way I can think of to be sure its an 02-04 harness.
Now, my questions are this. Is there anything else that is different with swapping a z1 in, rather than an a2 ? I did months worth of research before hand, and now, and it looked like it was only the tranny issues, and the newer wire harness for k pro. But if I'm right, I wont need to worry about those.
Also, playing around with k-manager, and there are only 2 base maps for the z1, one labeled for the 2005, and one for the 2006. I was wondering how they differ, because at a quick glance I can see the vtec windows are quite different. I didnt think there was any different from 05 to 06. Also, I'm not sure what year the engine is from, is there any way to tell ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you do your swap use your ep3 engine harness, everything will plug in. The knock sensor on the z1 block is different then the orginally knock sensor wiring on the ep3 harness. Just use the knock sensor off your a3 block. As for the kpro your going to have to use a kal setting for the ecu you kpro. prb = prb kal settings , or pnf = pnf kal setting, etc. For the tranny your just not gonna have reverse lockout. The cylinder head has the year it was made on it, usuallay a circle stamping.
I have to use a pnf base map ? Those are for an a3, so obviously it won't run a z1 properly. Do I have to basically copy and paste all the values over ? I don't plan on getting it tuned for a bit
the prb settings may work on the pnf ecu. I loaded an 04-05 tsx dual adapter kal on my prb ecu and my temp gauge qwit working. So I would image the prb kals would work ,but may be missing some pins for its wiring harness.
If you have kpro then your probably getting it dyno tuned right? Ask your tuner. Or for the time being just upload a prb kal. See if anything isnt working right afterwards.
I am going to get it tuned, but not for awhile yet, untill I figure out what mods I want to do, turbo or just some lighter stuff. I'm a 19 year old apprentice mechanic, so money is exactly plentiful

Thanks man, you're been a huge help. just looking into all my options, does anybody know which kit I would go with if I wanted to do a jackson racing supercharger ?
well, started working on the z1 on the ground today, and a couple new developments. It is a z1 block, a2 trans, prb intake manifold. WTF ?! Also, turbohatchBnuts, the only stamping on the head I can find, are 10 digits, and if they are the last 10 of a vin, then the head is from an 03. BUT, a different 03 than the tranny is from, because it has an entire vin on it.
