Default 91 accord spark & tach loss

My 91 accord LX is losing spark intermittently. When the car is cold I can usually go out and crank it right up. It runs for a minute to six minutes maximum. After it dies it will still spin over but not start. There is no reading on the tach while cranking and there is no spark coming out of the distributor. I've replaced the distributor three times with varying levels of success. One distributor lasted a month. Another lasted almost two years. I've also replaced the igniter four times. Once again varying levels of success. Any ideas what could be causing such a problem?

What testing procedures lead you to replace the items?

Sorry, I'm trying to back into what is going on.
