Hi all,

I own Civic Type R 2002 with 90,000 on the clock. Last two weeks its been making severe rattle/grinding noise on ignition and acelerating in first and second(only for a second or two) and just doesnt feel right.
checked oil and virtually empty although no warning light on. no obvious leaks but was some oil over V Tec cover so topped up with oil. it needed service anyway and on day of service engine management light came on.

garage did diagnostic and came up with code 57-3. trouble is they do not know what this means other than CMP problem. the cam sensor is ok apparently .

Ive done some research and think that the 57-3 code corresponds to a p 0341 which is V Tec phasing.

Can anybody confirm these two codes do correspond ?

Honda want me to take it to them and pay for another diagnostic so they can give me a p code but i dont really want to pay again to be told what i already know !
