1999 Honda civic ex sedan. I have a weird noise coming from the fuel tank area, I think, it happens approx every 55 secs after shutting off. My Nissan truck also did this noise and no one was ever able to explain it. Both vehicles were standard transmission. Here is a link to the noise. It happens once at the beginning and more noticeable at the end of the video.


Any have this issue or know what it is?

Sounds like the fuel pump is crying

 

Sounds like a release of pressure or vacuum in the EVAP system.

 

I thought the evap dumped by the front subframe?

 

There are several valves and hoses around the gas tank. Could also be a leaky fill cap.

 

Could a bad or aftermarket fuel pressure regulator make that noise?

 

Not sure. Wouldn't the noise be heard in the engine bay in this case?

 

Yes, not to threadjack but mine makes the exact same noise as op's and it never started doing that until I put on an aftermarket F/P regulator

 

The only other symptom that I didn't think to mention, is that when its low on fuel is cranks more during startup. Sometimes when at Empty level it will take like 50 seconds to get cranked up.

Is this sound something I should have investigated by my mechanic and fixed for any possible reason? Could this cause something worse?

 

This^ is normal for our Civics. When the tank is below 1/4, if you turn the key to ON(II) to let the pump fully prime for 2 seconds and then turn the key to ON(III), does the engine now start up immediately?

 

bump. just bought an EM1 and this noise happens to me also. its more towards the passenger side under the tank

 

change the fuel cap see if it still happens.

 

Bump..my civic hatch is doing the same thing..somedays it doesn't make any wired sounds but somedays it does...also I'm thinking it may be the cause of my cel coming on..evap canister leak p1457..

 

sound like the pump is giving up in our shop one civic came with the same sympthons and after 8 month the pump burn out on the owner on the highway on his way back home good luck hope it helps
