Initially, about a week ago my car's engine would turn over but then die shortly after. I left the car and got a ride from a buddy, but when I returned 6 hours later care was able to start and run just fine.

It was running well until about a couple days ago, I left the house and a couple miles out I noticed the gears shifted oddly so I turned around and parked it at the house and borrowed a car.

Now I have some time to take care of the problem and the engine starts up fine, but as soon as I hit the accelerator, the car goes a couple of feet and the engine shuts off.

There is a check engine light that is lit, but since I'm stranded at home for the time being and would like some initial input on what could possibly be wrong.

 

Year? Sub model? Engine size and type?

It's a '98 EX V6 Automatic

 

You could jump the connector and at least get the old OBD-I codes......

Does the car start right back up after it dies or do you have to wait some period of time?

 

I waited for a bit and car seemed to run fine.

Got the check engine light checked out and it is code 0108. It shifted gears oddly for a few minutes on the highway.
