Default Well it happened...

On the way to school, I got hit. I was doing a Uturn behind a truck but the truck couldnt make it so decided to back up. I yelled, yanked my horn and tryed to back up as fast as I could but couldnt do it. The truck smashed my front wheel fairing. I thought the truck was going to come over my bike.

Once he started going, I pulled up to him to let him know that he hit me but him and his partner just smiled and laughed. They pulled over to meet their other partner and I followed. I told the guys that they backed into me and they freaked. They had no idea they did that. The police ended up coming letting me know I was the victim and he was at fault. He had the same thing happen to him with his Goldwing so he was on my side. We exchanged info and left and thankgod a well known company truck hit me.

I was wondering what I should do now. The company is going to write me a check for the damages instead of going through the insurance but I want to get my bike checked over so its not more than the wheel fairing. I think I hear sounds now and was wondering where I can go to get it checked out. Any other steps I should do? Thanks guys and here is a picture of my damaged baby:

it only hit just the front wheel fairing? not the tire, rim, or anything?

Well it spliced through the fairing and hit the tire. Seems to be fine because he was going very slow but Im still getting it checked out.

One word of advice: no matter how minor, don't EVER let a company or person write you a check. Once you take that check, you're fucked if other stuff comes up down the road. ALWAYS go through the insurance company. That's what it's for.

id take the check if it's more than your deductible. make a profit, you deserve it.

Take the money and buy yourself a carbon fiber front fender.
Put it on yourself and have $$ to spare.

This is very true. My friend take a check and later down the road he found something else and he could do nothing about it.

The at fault party's insurance pays the damages... roy doesn't have to pay a deductible since he's the victim being reimbursed by the trucker's insurance. The trucker presumably has to pay a deductable. Take it to your dealer and let them know its an insurance job. They'll be sure to look really careful for anything that hints at being damaged. They want to make money, and you want the peace of mind of having a cherry bike. Unless you really know bikes, I wouldn't suggest you take the check and try to fix it yourself. Course I would, and I'd probably make a pretty penny and/or get some nice parts. Anyways I'm glad you're not a pancake and the cbr is still mostly alive and well.

I don't know. If it ONLY clipped the front fender, and didn't touch the frame, tire, fork, headlamp or anything, then I don't see the point in getting it "checked out". It looks like only some cosmetic damage.

But if you want peace of mind, it's your call. Personally, I'd find the most expensive replacement and let them foot the bill. Carbon fiber comes to mind.

that's usuallyt he way auto insurance dicks you but in my experience, moto insurance really doesn't care too much. My rates went up $7 a year after a 20mph+ speeding ticket...
