civic 2001 auto trany sound

civic 2001 auto trany sound
Hello,
I was driving my father's civic vti 2001 auto transmission and realized that the tansmission makes a knock sound as if somehting kicked in it, once i go from 3rd to 2nd gear.
If driven one D position nothing happens, only when i move the trany stick into the 2nd.
Trany Oil level is fine, car has 57,000 miles.
any ideas?
