Are manual and power steering rack in 96-00 interchangeable??
I have an European Honda Civic Coupe 96' with power steering rack and I want to convert it to manual. I've done the loop on the lines but I want to take another step and change it.
My problem is here in Spain there weren't 6th generation Civics with manual steering so I'll have to order it outside here and I want to know before I buy it if they are interchangeable.
Also does the 92-00 fit?

i know in the 92-95, the sub frame was different between the power and manual. thats why you see so many people with the line loops.
I added power steering to my 96 hatch and used the manual cross member. Actually there is no power steering and manual cross member like the 92-95, there is only one part number for both PS and manual so you can reuse your cross member and associated brackets. You'll need the manual steering joint:
53323-SR0-003 JOINT B, STEERING
53323-SR0-003 JOINT B, STEERING

That's it. Heres the link I used. He did swap subframes but that was just for ease of install, note he says "THE SUBFRAME IS NOT NEEDED FOR THE CONVERSION"

I saw another thread on here and they deleted the pump seal part on the rack. you have to make a cut, then bang it off with a hammer..
Then you grease up the teeth and pinion and you have a 3.3 L2L wheel.

Because it still sucks, it's got a much quicker ratio lock to lock, which sucks as far as steering effort goes. There's a reason a real manual rack is slower lock to lock, steering effort.
Personally, Id rather have a 3.3 lock to lock. Its a light car and not much effort is needed.
Just personal preference I suppose.

To make you understand my point of view I'm one of the less is better. I have my AC removed, the ground insonorization carpet removed, now the PS removed, the airbags removed. I want a ABS switch.
For me a car is a challenge not a couch in where you sit and magically arrive to your destination.
