Default Teh Boss' EJ8 Build Thread

Introduction: (Please Read)
What's going on everyone. I just thought I'd start out with a little introduction assuming noone around here knows me. My name is Kylor, I'm a 16 year old highschool student from northern West Virginia (very close to Pittsburgh PA.) I've been obsessed with Nissans/Hondas and other JDM cars ever since I was born. My first car that was issued to me was a 99 Civic EX Coupe (it needed a lot of work...) Although I don't have any pictures of the car when I first received it (still digging to find a picture of two.) I have put countless hours into building it. I'm currently in the middle of my build right now and felt like it was the perfect time to start compiling a build thread to look back on in the years to come. So, let's go a little back into time to where I first began my build..

Before I Begin...
As a 16 year old highschool student, I guarantee that some of you already have the thought in mind that my parents are sponsoring me through my build.. This is absolutely false.. I work a minimum wage job averaging around 30 hours a week to pay for my build. The only thing my parents have given to me throughout this build is the car itself (which I am very thankful for.)

The Build:
This picture is when I first received my car and before I started doing work on it.. Fell free to troll

So for quite a few years now, I have really adored the slammed and hellaflush scene, so typical teenage thought was to lower my car.. So, around August of 2011 (my 15th birthday), I used my birthday money to buy a set of Tein S.Spec springs..

(I was so proud of my work, because it was the first mod that I myself ever did to this car)

A couple months down the road and I finally got my first job.. Which meant paychecks! I then bought myself my first set of wheels (Rota D2), a Skunk2 MegaPoweRR catback, an Invidia Test Pipe, and a set of EK fog lights..

(was sitting at monster truck height back then)

I then bought type r replica headlamps, installed my fog light kit, and put my oem grill back on after a quick plastidip..

I then got an opportunity to trade up to a set of Kosei K1 wheels..

During that time I also bought myself an HKS HiPower Catback. At this point, I knew it was time to do something about my stance.. So for 2-3 months, I saved all my money and bought myself EVERYTHING I needed to overhaul my entire suspension setup. List of mods:
- Function and Form Type 1 Coilovers
- BWR Polished Subframe
- KSport Lower Control Arms
- Beaks Hyper Orange Tie Bar
- GSR Sway Bar
- Blox Adjustable End Links
- D2 Rear Camber Kit
- BWR Front Camber Arms

During the install...

After the install...

Took a break for a while on doing work on my car since hours were cut at work after the holiday season. I continued to save my money for future projects and good thing I did.. Was driving to WVU to visit some friends and threw a rod in my D16... A bad spark plug wire cause that cylinder to run lean...

So.. had to get a non-running car in the garage.. How do I pull that off? JEEP!

And the work begins..

In the mean time.. I did a little shopping.. In other words, I picked up a GSR head

Wasn't exactly digging the rattle can red on the valve cover. I sent it away to have it powdercoated Wrinkle Blue. Also picked up some purple PasswordJDM goodies and a Blox Intake Manifold

Got my AEM fuel rail in the mail as well as my spark plug cover (which I then painted a purple & white rising sun on)

So that brings me up to date (the day I posted this thread).. Today, I decided to mount my B-Series shift linkage into place..
What you guys probably didn't realize is that this car was an automatic trans. Meaning, I have to cut this wind plate where the old auto trans cable ran.. Gotta pick up a few blades for my wafer grinder..

More to come...

Love where you're taking this build. I'm 17 so i know how it is to be low on money and still buy quality parts. Currently doing a ferio clone (: Sorry about the rod threw the block, that's the freaking worse.

It definitely sucked man! But hey, its giving me an excuse to do better and faster things to my car.. my dads letting me use half the garage for as long as I need it, and it gives me a nice opportunity to clean and possibly paint my bay good luck with your build man!

Very nice, I like where this is going. Only thing I don't like are the color of the wheels. But thats just personal opinion.

Wheels are being painted soon. When I bought them they were green.

How well are the CTR replica's holding up? Seems interesting if they are durable enough.

Fitment is perfect, I haven't noticed any moisture in them so I guess the seals are still holding strong. Ill get you some pictures when I get home from school.

So an update: tomorrow with my paycheck I will be replacing my entire strut tower. (Car was in a front end collision a couple years ago and the strut tower consequently rusted). Ill be going to my local Honda dealership to get the entire panel special ordered. But the good news is.. after I get the new panel welded in.. the bay is going to be painted battleship gray....!

Sounds good man. Those strut towers can be tricky with rust, so make sure you have it well primed and coated when you put it in.

I don't trust myself to do it :p I'm letting my buddy who was a body shop guy at a Honda dealership do it for me. He said he'd do it free if I pay to fill his welder tank. $30 is worth someone with experience to do it.
