car runs just fine, battery always seems charged up, starts up easily but when im driving, mostly on highways with the car in the low rpm range, the battery light comes on and off. Sometimes it will stay on, but when it turns on and off the driver side light flickers. I have HID's in, thought that was the culprit so i switched back to stock bulbs and it still happend.

Checked the battery connections and the negative was really loose, added a spacer and tightend it. checked the alternator belt and it had no slack, should there be a little slack in it?

Soon as i put the car in neutral and rev the motor, the light goes away. Im stumped as to what it can be.

 

It could be the battery, it could be at the point where the battery has died past the voltage point where it throws the battery light, id check the batery voltage and see if its good, this probably wont be the best answer, but it may lead you in the sort of right direction lol

 

Assuming you don't have any other electrical modifications you haven't told us about, it sounds like your alternator is on its way out. If the battery was dead or dying, you would notice other problems. Mainly, hard or no start.

Get a voltmeter. Test the battery and alternator.

 

Seconding alternator, experienced that 3 times myself. If you're not too savvy with a multimeter, autozone or kragen should be able to test the alternator for you since your car is still driveable.

 

take the car to advance auto or the similar and have them check your alternator

gahhh didnt want to hear that but glad thats all it is. Im pretty good with a multimeter...should I be checking the voltage coming off the alternator? what should it read?

it should be like at around a 14.11 or so around the 14s !

 

Fifthing, alt is on its way out.
