I was planning on buying an Itr block no head and was trying to figure out how to tell the year from the serial number code stamped underneath the b18c5 stamp. Or is the vin# the only way of knowing?
What year is your ITR and what is your serial number (stamped underneath b18c5)

 

this is going off memory, but there should be casting numbers around the block tranny/head. Like a circular stamp/cast that'll say something like 96 or 97 etc...

 

Talking about the 7301350 stamp. What year is this block?

 

i think those are just serial numbers. i think on the back of the block if i remember right there is a year stamp. Think its on the lower part.

 

Hours and hours of searching and I've found it..most other threads go nowhere I know alot of people are wondering the answer to this question because engines before 96 do not have vins. Also I guess Honda can trace the block back to a vin# if you call them.
Thanks for the response but that was just the picture I had to go with and he lived 20 miles from me and wasnt sure on the year. I did end up buying it. Its a 2000
SO because type R uses GSR block then that makes this block a 2000. I checked the vin that is on the block and it matches. Ys005440 I also have a 94 gsr block that is starts with a 1 so I believe this information is correct.

 

so my guess is same procedure goes for a GSR block?
