Default setting base idle

the label under hood says , 1500 +/- 500

i've read with the iacv unplugged it should be 625

i planned on setting it with iacv plugged in and all things on, fan , lights, defroster, radio to 1500 as i notice a drop in idle when all those things are on

and 1500 seems a big diff from 625..................so whats the correct way?

Page from shop manual is located here:

http://crxcommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10686

1500 is definitely too high.

ooops, my mistake , didn't scrape enuff dirt, lol

says 750 +- 50 with everything off

for some reason farther down it has fast idle 1500 +- 500

so that 750 is for iacv unplugged then, and everything off??????

cuz if i'm reading that page from manual correctly, it has you check it is 750 with iacv plugged in and all things on, steps 8 and 9

so why wouldn't ya just do that from the get go?

No idea why the hood says that. Maybe a typo on the label?

I'm 99% sure it's the same for a d15b1. You should download the shop manual from http://www.spoonertuner.com just to be sure. I'm too lazy to do it.

Ah, makes sense with the dirt.

When you turn on the lights, blower, etc., the idle does dip a little, but maybe it changes more/less depending on where the base idle is with everything off. Best just to follow the service manual.

yeah, i have a helms, doesn't lay it out as procedure wise like that does so ty

just stumps me as the end result is the same as doing it with everything on and iacv untouched

was just curious what everyone else does

500 unplugged and it goes up to 7-750 after you reset ecu and plug it back in.

It sounds like you have an charging sysyem issue not an idle issue. If an increased electrical load is causing your idle to drop the ELD could be at fault, although I wouldn't worry much unless its stalling out. its fairly normal for it to fluctuate for a second or 2, but it should go right back to normal.

So whats the reason for wanting to set the idle? It seems like you'd be better served by fixing the underlying issue.

If you dont have an issue with your idle you should probably just leave it alone.

The ELD or "electric load detector" is built into the under hood fuse box. It is in charge of adjusting the idle speed to account for changing electrical loads.

Actually, the ELD is just an energy saving device to increase gas mileage by turning down voltage output by the alternator when it is not needed.

Remove the hazard fuse for 3 minutes or so to reset the ECU.

well, i noticed no change in idle whatsoever when disc iacv

i also could not get the idle down to 625 , the motor would stall first

so, i reconnected and was able to set it at 810 with everything on

any reason for this?

clean iacv or just replace?

like i said, idle doesn't search or anything like that, it's steady, just seems like iacv isn't doing jack

Was the car warmed up? If the car is warmed up and the base idle is set to a reasonable value, I think disconnecting the IACV should not really do anything.

If the car is cold and the IACV isn't doing anything, there's definitely something wrong with it.

yes, says to warm up car before doing procedure, also couldn't get idle down to 625 like it says, was waaay too low, motor shaking etc

it's at 810 with everything on, i'm just going to clean iacv and set it that way

not sure why you unplug iacv and then go on to checking with it plugged back in further in procedure

810 seems high as when everything is turned off the idle comes up a bit, but
that's what it says i guess
