I have a 91 honda civic and it will start cold, but once it starts it backfires and bogs out, and will stall if it gets to low rpms. Once hot the engine wont start.
any ideas?

 

Could be a number of things, always start with the basics,is the check engine light on? do a basic inspection of the ignition system, take the distributor cap off, is it all fuzzy?(white crud built up on points) Check the rotor and see if its burned, is there oil inside of the distributor houseing? Pull a spark plug out see how it looks, could be a simple tune up issue could be something more

 

Mechanical timing off?

CEL codes?

Does unplugging the O2 sensor eliminate the problem?

 

sounds like bad timing

 

mine did this due to a bad Intake temp sensor, but it threw a CEL.
