Icon6 98 Hatch Project

Hey Honda-Tech,

I'm new to the world of Honda's and Honda-Tech, I mainly hang out on the Celica forums. Me and my buddy picked up a 98 Hatch DX a couple days ago and I figured I would make a thread on here so you guys can help us and see what goes on with it.

I have been working on my own car and some friends for a few years now - I turbo'd my Celica and have done all the work on it myself. But this is a Honda Forum - I won't talk about the Celica much.

Here are some pics of the car I got.

As you can see, the body is in pretty good condition, other than this fender:

Also, the car goes into gear, but when you let the clutch out, it doesn't move. After doing some reading on here, I'm guessing one or both of the axles popped out.

It just had the clutch replaced about a week before it stopped moving, for the same reason.

But, the car is bone stock. Thinking about doing the Mini-Me swap with the z6 head, but we'll see how it all plays out.

Thanks for looking and stay tuned! I'm sure I'll have questions

So after about 30 minutes of working on it, we got the axle back in and put it all back together. The car MOVES! Drove it around all day!

The only thing now is the speedo. While driving it jumps around randomly - not indicating anything near the correct speed.

What could I check to fix that?

Thanks for the fast response!

Is this the sensor that plugs in to the transmission? and would it be the sensor itself, or the wiring to the cluster?...or either. lol

The check engine light is also on, I'll be scanning it today to see what code it is throwing.

Looks like a new VSS is only $50. So I'm going to see if any local places have one today, and throw it in there and see if that helps.

Thanks! The car is for sale locally if anyone is interested in it, but we are going to keep doing stuff to it until it sells.

Where are you located at? I don't mind meeting you somewhere. (You can PM me if you don't want to post your location here)

I can also get you more pics as we progress.

Down by Oregon State University.
But I'm too poor right now.
I'd love to see the progress though.
What are your plans for it?

That's a fun drive in my Celica!

Future plans:
- Fix the fender and front bumper
- re-paint - don't know what color yet.
- Mini-Me swap (if we have it long enough)
- wheels, suspension.

Not much else really, don't want to put a lot of money into it.

I've always had a soft spot for Celicas.

Ahhh. Sounds nice! If you wanna see my build, just press on "build thread" in my signature.

Thanks man!

Good and bad news. The car may be getting sold before I have a chance to do anything to it. My friend was running errands in it, and a guy offered him the $2k asking price for it. He came to look at it, and is waiting until this Friday to get the money.
Good: Made some money
Bad: Didn't get a chance to build it.

But!!!! We are thinking of using the profit money to find another unloved Honda and do the same-ish thing. So we'll see.
