2001 Civic won't rev past 4,000 RPM's every 3,000 Miles
I'm sure that this has been covered somewhere on this forum, and I apologize for wasting anyones time, but I can't find it.
1.) I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX with 180,000+ miles on it.
2.) I bought the car off a girl who had recently graduated from college and the car was co-signed by her mom, she went to school in a different state so her parents bought her the car (this becomes important later)**
I noticed about 3 months after I bought it that the engine seemed to be cutting out and the check engine light came one, since I'm not a mechanic, I took it to a transmission place where they said nothing was wrong, it just needed an oil change from what they could tell. I did the oil change and everything was fine. Fast forward another 3,000 miles and it happened again, so I changed the oil, took the positive lead of the terminal for about 15 seconds, and all was good.
After that I started using the trip odometer and a peice of paper to tell me when I was about to hit 3,000 miles. No sooner did I drive 3,000 miles the light came on and I couldn't rev above 4,000 RPM's. I was told by a buddy of mine, who is a mechanic, that he thought that my Honda had some sort of parental lock on it to make sure that the driver had the car maintenance every 3,000 miles.** I don't know whether that's true or not, I was hoping someone on here could help me out with whats going on. I'm not a troll or anything I just really need help.

If it's not exactly at 3000 miles each time and just about 3000 miles I would suspect sludge buildup. For that I would try some top-end cleaner.
There's no such thing as a "parental lock" to prevent you from driving normally. If you're continuing to be set in "Limp" mode (where the engine will not rev past 4,000 rpm's), there is something wrong with the car. If you're getting a Check Engine Light, get it scanned at a local AutoZone, PepBoys, or the like for free and come back with the code they give you (ask for the actual P-series code, not just a description of potential problems).
