I recently just encountered the same dash and speedometer lights going out and watched the above video you mentioned. It is a good temporary fix, but you don't want to use the paperclip / just the cable with wires in the long run. You might want to take a look at this video below for the better of the two fixes:
i already saw it, but that wasnt my problem... mine was lose all the lights because my multiplex control unit is bad..
if u have blinking lights with this video you can fix that

Just figured out my problem, just a fuse - ARGH! The fuse on the passenger side of dash labeled "license plate light" (10AMP fuse) - this sucker took out my multiplex speedometer lights, my license plate light, and also the 4-way flash when you lock your car.
Wish I'd found this out before because I had the whole speedometer assembly apart - battery tested each bulb, and searched the circuit board for heat/stress fractures.

I did the paperclip trick and it fixed my gauge lights. Then I removed the paperclip and used a splice to run a wire between the two wires. That worked. I put it back into the car and started to button it up. Once I had the screws in place that hold the cluster in the dash I tried it again and no gauge lights. I removed the gauge pod and turned on the lights, nothing. I wiggled the wire and they came on. I turned off the lights and removed the wire went back to the paper clip. Now the gauge lights don't work at all.
Should I just replace the multiplexer.... the car has an aftermarket stereo.
Thanks,
