Make sure there is no air in the system and get a new radiator cap. See if that cures the problem.

possible, though i think not super likely since he said he changed it 6 months ago. maybe if it was a cheapo, defective one.

OP: does your overflow bottle get full, even enough to spill out? also is there any unusual smell from the coolant? you could be leaking combustion gases into the coolant system, creating air pockets that can trap uncirculated coolant near the temp sensor. when you rev it "dislodges" the air pocket introducing normal temp coolant to the sensor.

this is of course just my theory. Though i've seen it in practice, first hand. Just something else to be aware of and check for before throwing too many parts/money at it.

How to get the air out of the coolant line:

There is a release valve located near the fuel rail and throttle body. Open it 3/4 of the way when filling the radiator with coolant. When coolant comes out of this valve, stop pouring, shutoff the valve, then top off your radiator.

the resevoir was getting full to the rim when i changed the radiator ..but now its dry and im putting coolant everyday ...if there was air pockets in the system would it cause loss of coolant

no, but a head gasket leak into the cylinders can. the system needs to be pressure tested. that should show the size/severity of the leak and hopefully reveal it's location (a small flashlight through the plug tube should help you see any puddling)

Usually when you're at a dead stop and it overheats means that your fans aren't working. You sure the right fan is working? Passenger fan is for the radiator while the driver side fan is for the condensor.

You can pull your spark plugs and see if the coolant is crystalizing on them...they will looking the same color as your coolant.

i had this simular problem with my car and it ended up being a clogged heater core (cause the heater core hose comes off the head below the distributor and its right next to the coolant temp sensor) and if the heater core is clogged the hot coolant will be pushed back into the head and sorta lingers in that spot which can cause your temp needle to rise.

hope it helps somehow and good luck!
