Default OMNI MBX compatibility ?

I purchased a glallon of omni mbx 3.5 voc candy apple red paint. The mix ration is 1:1 with no hardener. im not sure what reducer to mix with. I was gonna take it to the local paint store and see what they say.
I also am not sure of what clear coat to use. PPG website says use compatible omni clear coat. I was planning to use diamond clear from the local store.

anyone familiar with this paint?

I am, Omni is a ok brand... It is mixed 1:1 with Med. Reducer or fast or slow depending on temps when you paint.

Go here: https://buyat.ppg.com/refinishProductCatalog/

That will take you to the product pages for there materials, tell you how you need to sand and prep you car for base, clear. Deltron is what we use in the shop and it does awsome, and flows together very nice and is easy to cut and buff.

I called them. I specifically asked if another brand of urethane clear will be safe to use and if the results will be good. They wouldn't tell me yes or no, they just told me the compliant omni clear and there's only three kinds..

I'm going to see what the local shop says

There are some products that are not compatiable tho so make sure to ask. It could cause lifting or maping or mottling if they are not compatible. You can get Shop line or Omni Clear as an entry level clear. If you want a good clear get Deltron 3000 it will look like glass when your done, very little cut and buff or any would be needed. It runs about 295 for a gal of clear and a gal of hardner. Shop line is pretty cheap but dosent last as long if in day light alot.

I've looked at deltron, I'm just on a budget. I paid 80 for a gallon of omni mbx and 50 for autobahn primer gardener and activator , mixing cups and tape from the local paint store. I'm selling the car I'm but I'm trying to do a quality job and really being careful with everything. The local shop has rm diamont clear. But that's at the "cheap " shop. There is a dupli colour shop that I believe carries ppg and higher quality paints. I'll be stopping by there to ask questions tomorrow.

Look for Shopline or Omni clear coat (dont remember the offical name)Remember the more exspensive clears will lay down flater, so less wet sanding will be needed. Shop line and omni are pretty much the same thing too so get whatever is cheapest, they are both PPG.

I've had good results with Deltron base and Ppg low voc speed clear. It was pretty cheap too.

if its your first time spraying, you dont need a top of the line clear, you dont know how to spray in order to lay it on like its designed too. buy a cheaper clear, like 3or more coats on there not to to wet, and then just cut and buff to perfection man. play it safe, learn the ropes, spray a lot of panels before you go exploring top of the line materials if your just getting into it

Local ppg shop only has the omni Mbc reducer Mr185 in stock. I wonder if it will work with my omni mbx acrylic urethane? The mbx calls for Mr29 reducer..

ok i hope it works! i dont want to order and have to wait for the ''compliant" reducer to come in,and certainly dont want the paint to lift later on
