can't pass inspection with cel on
Hey guys 98 accord v6 ex 149k miles. the light just came on and I cant pass inspection now. The codes are p0401 and p0420. one is the egr and the other is bad cat. My plan was to clean the replace egr and clean out the port. what do i do for the cat? replace the 02s?
Ok thanks, I only ask because a shop told me there was 4 and it would be $800. I was like no thanks. Ill do them myself. I know there like 70 a pop for bocsh once at auto zone.
i dont think there 4. More like 2 02 sensors. Just get a good breaker bar and awhole bunch of PB plaster.

OK, thanks. cleaned up the egr, upper and lower manifold and tb. It had major carbin build up all over everything. And the egr port was soild. All clean now. Runs a lot better too. But I could not get off the one 1/2 nut off the egr valve somebody stripped it
any good way or ideas to get it off? I bought a hex 10, 11 and 12 mm socket last night to try it this up coming weekend. And i got a small cutting wheel that goes onto my drill. I also picked up a up and down stream 02s.
i pulled the plug wires just to see how they where and on the front of the motor all the way to the left, it had oil all over it so did the top of the spark plug. the middle plug had a little oil and the driver side one was dry and just looked white. Is this a bad gaskit going?

Denso and NTK only, no Bosch. With Bosch you have to cut and solder the plug. Most likely your downstream O2 sensor. Not only that, the Bosch brand might not clear your code. Replace that then think about your cat. Check the gas cap. My Corolla threw the same code and I tighten the gas cap and never happens again. It should not be related and with a different code but it did fixed it.
ow ok. the guy at the parts story said the Bosch once are the best and they would be plug and play install. he gave me 13249 up stream and 13176 down stream.

I'll just go back and change the bosch ones out. Are these the right denso ones?

Do not buy the Bosch. I have had an O2 issue with my 1992 accord. And will be replacing my O2 for the third time in 6 weeks. Called Autozone today and they are ordering the denso. They will credit me for the Bosch.
