1990 accord idle fluctuation
I have a 90' accord, 2.2L, manual. When it's cold out and I start my car and drive off, before I let it warm up for a minute or two, and drive a short distance if I let it idle it revs up from 1500-2000rpm to 2500-3000rpm then drops. Revs up again and drop and it does this until it warms up then it smooths out and runs fine. WHAT'S CAUSING THIS??????
FITV and Air Boost Valve. Replace or get a block off plate for the air boost valve. Clean the FITV, tighten the white seal inside with a flathead, and replace seals. Then disconnect your battery for a few minutes, reconnect battery, start your car without touching the gas pedal, let car sit and idle until it warms up and the fans come on without touching the throttle at all. Turn off car and restart and everything should be fine.

Holmesnmanny and hooligan hit it right on the nose. My 97 accord was surging up and down and idling really high. So i removed the FITV and the IACV. Cleaned both, and adjusted the FITV and boom! Now it idles and runs like it should.

I had the same problem as you until I blocked off the fitv, the one located at the opposite end of the manifold. I used an aluminum piece from a soda can and wedged it between the manifold and fitv.

Thanks for everything guys. This is my first time on here so I'm a little slow figuring it out. I'll be sure to do what you've suggested and post again when I get it done. Thanks again.
I'm having this exact same problem, I have a coolant leak but even when I've just barely filled it up with coolant it will still idle eratically. does this mean that cleaning everything is a more feasable solution? or should I be planning on fixing the coolant leak before it will stop doing that? Every mechanic I ask seems to give me a different answer....
Thanks in advance for any advice!!
