Default N/A H2B del sol (pictures)

Hey guys last month I picked up a 94' del sol for $400. Its in fair condition, i was looking for something cheap and light. I believe it weighs 2300lbs before any weight reduction. Im going h2b, always been bseries. Looking for advice, tips, discussion. Im going to post as many pictures are possible during this build.

I picked up a h22a head for $80, Good deal with intake manifold and all. My plan is to build this head while i look for a block.

I started to port the intake manifold, I can tell this is going to take a while this is where i left off after day 1.

I started to do some minor port work to the head before i send it to the machine shop. Again this is a work in process and this is where im at, still have a few hours of cleaning up and going over it all with 80 grit sanding roll.

So i finally found my block! picked up a h23a blue top from JDM Engine Depot. $650 drove to jersey and picked it up. 240psi every cylinder.

This is where i am today, my plans are to finish my port work on both head and intake manifold. Waiting on tax returns to get my tranny and qsd kit, but until ill be building my head getting it ready. THESE ARE MY PLANS. feel free to comment with suggestion, lets keep the negativity low.

Skunk2 Pro1 cams
Ferrea 5000 flat face valves
Supertech dual valve springs/ ti retainers
74mm Tb
balance shaft removal kit
qsd h2b kit

I personally have had two engines come with sludge so bad they had sticking bypass valves on the oil pump. After cleaning and changing pumps the motors were fine.

Two friends dropped in h23a engines into accords. Both had bad oil pumps in some way shape or form. Not saying its a sure thing but better safe than sorry.

Just more info. My friend ordered three v6 engines at one time from tiger and they all spun bearing in the street cars we put them in. they were stock accords and a civic with stock ecu. Then another friend had a j30 cl I believe (don't know which body it was) and the transmission he ordered from tiger was bad.

Now we only use HMO. But again. That's my experience and what I've actually had hands on and it was a crappy feeling. We wasted a lot of work and tiger made it hell to get another engine. And even then I was scared to use it. The h23a I installed for a client ran awesome. Had dizzy issues a smashed valve cover somehow so had to swap those parts.

On my phone. Sorry for the paragraphs

hey thanks a bunch, i plan to do the balance shaft removal kit, so im taking off the oil pump. You just gave me a good heads up to actually inspect, so thanks!

I can somewat understand where u are coming from, i drove 4 hours just to find the motor they had lined up for me had so much sludge it wasnt even funny, i told him i wasnt buying that motor and they agreed. They let me choose from another 3, i took the valve cover off the one i bought and it was extremely clean, so i was very happy with my purchase and happy with jdm engine depot. there is no telling what the bottom end looks like, so we will see. i will be sure to post as many pics as possible.

Its not just about one particular motor. Most of the engines being imported are.... old. They have been sitting with nobody maintaining them. They simple just need to be gone threw and assured there is no build up or carmelized oil in the system. Blockage leads to oil starvation, then you know whats next.

THE H23A ONLY CAME AUTOMATIC, SO THINK OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DRIVING THESE WAGONS, SOMETIMES THEY ABUSE THEM EXPECIALLY IF THEY KNO THEY ARE ABOUT TO GET RID OF THE VEHICLE SOME WONT CHANGE THE OIL FOR THE LAST 10,000 MILES. THIS IS THE REASON I WOULD NEVER HAVE ONE SENT TO ME, ALWAYS POP THAT VALVE COVER OFF BEFORE BUYING, I WILL POST SOME PICTURES OF THE ONE I GOT. $650 IS A STEAL

Which do you think would be better, if i round or point the tops of the dividers between each cylinder on the intake manifold. ^^

hey guys figured id post a few pics, havent got much progress done, been really busy with work and all. Had a hour conversation today with Seth from QSD big props to him, this guy is super easy to get along with and has a ton of knowledge.

The intake is about half way done, and the head is not even close, im almost done with one half of one cylinder on the intake side. Trying to finish it up so i can send the head out for new guides and a mill.

Great build so far, we both have similar builds. To add to the "Imported motor" topic ya they do come dirty but if you take off the valve cover and drop the oil pan you can clean it up. I got a JDM h22 and a blue top off tiger, both came dirty. My first h22 was N/A for 6-7 months then turboed for 3 months. Car was running untuned and getting abused everyday and blew because of my stupidity of letting it overheat. I haven't started my Bluetop yet but I'm not worried. Good luck on the build, can wait for updates.

A small rounded leading edge can promote better/laminar flow vs a sharp edge!

Just got some parts in, Comp clutch stage 4, comp 8lb flywheel, hasport mounts, and deutchwerks 420cc injectors. Also ordered all the parts for my manual tensioner from my job, along with balance shaft eliminator kit from KS tuned. Got around to installing the balance shaft kit, pretty simple and straight forward. Now i just gotta get intouch with Seth from QSD and order my kit, and ill be ready to drop her in. Here are some pictures of the process srry for the dely.
