Default the white plastic clip that the O2 sensor plugs into broke off the wire, what now?

car is a 90 crx si

i installed a new O2 sensor, i plugged the white plastic clip on the end of the O2 sensor wire into the other white plastic clip on the other side coming from the wire harness, but then the white plastic clip on the other side that the O2 one plugs into broke right off of the wire that went into it, and broke right where the wire came out so it did'nt leave any wire sticking out to be able to splice the other wire to.

my question is : should i buy a new white plastic clip either from a dealer or from a junkyard ? where i can splice it back to the wire it broke from? ,

is that white plastic clip totally necessary in order for the O2 to work right ? or could i just cut off the white plastic clip thats on the end of the O2 sensor wire, and strip the end of the wire and splice it to the other wire it connects to ?

if i did that would you know if the O2 sensor would still work properly without having those white plastic clips in the connection link at all ?

The plug or clip is only there for convenience and to prevent corrosion.

You'll be safe stripping the wire back and tacking on a new bit of wire and ends, It will function exactly the same. Just use some heat shrink and or electical tape to keep it from shorting out.

Personally I would go to the trouble of finding a used plug at a junkyard but thats just me.

If the plug is intact and the wire is what broke you can still re-use it. The connectors or pins can be released from the plug by sticking a tiny flathead (or paperclip) into the back of the plug and prying back on the tab that holds the pin in (take a look at it first to find the tab). After this you can repair the wire and as long as you use the same sized connectors on the end you can simply plug each wire back into this plug, make sure to note which wire goes where.

thanks, thats all i wanted to hear, just someone to confirm its ok to do without the clip thing, but i am like you and would rather just get another clip from a junkyard,

and i actually went to a Pick-N-Pull junkyard just a couple hours ago, so i could get one, but before going there i made sure to see what hours they were open on the website, and for that location it said they were open 8am - 5pm today.

its just 10 mins to get there, and once there i would just need 15 mins or less to find a clip, so i get there around 4:40pm, so i had 20 mins til they close,
but the guy at the counter said "were closed", i said "what are you talking about?, i still got 20 mins, it says on the website you close at 5pm ?", and he said "no, we close at 4:30", so that pissed me off a lot just cause how they mislead me with what it said on the website, and i go there for nothing and stuff, but i guess thats what i get for cutting it close leaving at last minute.

so i'll just go tomorrow, plus thats better cause i need more time cause i wanted to also get several small parts that i need too while there.

Well like I said in the first post, If only the wire broke, the plug is perfectly fine to re use. You'll just need a bit more wire and new ends, like these: http://www.towsure.com/product/Femal...ors_Pack_of_20

The connectors will need to be the same size as the originals.
