My slow 89 Civic Hatch build thread!
Alright, this car has been my first, and I plan on keeping it. I got a job just as I turned 16. I worked hard and saved until I could buy myself a used car. When I first bought the car, it was (and still is in some ways) rough. I bought it on steelies with four bald tires, each a different brand. lol He was stubborn about the price. I managed to hagle it from $2,100 to $2,050.. The seller said he replaced the timing belt, but I found out the hard way.
The belt broke, and it smashed the valves. After a lot of money and repairs, the shop didn't torque the head down right and it over heated, warping the head and block.
Then they didn't tighten the belt tensioner and my belt skipped a tooth, and they didn't tighten the oil plug and within the week, I had an oil pan FULL of metal shreddings.
So, I took this mess in my own hands, because they appearantly don't know ****. Now, I am 17 with the build of my dreams. It isn't close to being finished, but it has gone a long way. I'll update it as I remember what I have bought..

Pics please!! Love ef hatches. First modded honda I ever saw was a boosted d16z6 swapped ef hatch. Wouldn't say it was the car that got me into hondas but it sure opened my eyes. Sounds like you're headed in the right direction and I always love seeing people around my age getting their hands dirty and going at a build. Keep it up, and again, post up some pics!

I love the Civic, dude. In all honesty, one of my favorite Hondas, I'd love to build an LS-VTEC into one someday (fingers-crossed).
I also like the 924 you've got poking out in one of those pictures. My little sister used to drive an identical one several years ago, fun cars.

I've got some pics of us racing. I'll upload them when I get the chance. An LS-VTEC would be fun, but my next goal is some gold enkei 92's and a turbo.
Oh yeah, especially when I loose the allen wrench I need. I really want to get the fender washers, cf battery relocator w/ odyssey pc680, hood struts, and then some enkei 92's. Any suggestions for tire sizes that would look good if I lowered my car more? They will be new enkei 92's, which is a 15x8.
Nice to see another ED hatch built in Colo. As for the tire sizes, just depends on how low you go. 195/45 would give a mild stretch (by todays standards) but you would have to be pretty low to pull that off. Good luck on the build man!
Any good brands? I work at a discount tire, so price isn't a huge issue. I heard that nitto neogens or something are good for lowered cars because they wear at a slower rate on the insides.
I dont know too much about the Nitto's, but from what I hear they are pretty soft and will wear quickly. Dont worry about the inner tire wear, just get an alignment after your final drop height has settled. Toe will destroy tires, neg camber will not. From what I hear Falkens have a nice stretch. I am using 165/50 Federals on my SSR fins, but I know that Discount doesn't carry them. You can check out rimtuck.com to check out other wheel/tire setups. Good luck man!
Well, I think that I have decided to get some 205/50/15 Falken Azenis RT-615Ks. Any opinion on these? I hear they have horrible tread life, but amazing grip. A also want a little bit of stretch. lol not hellaflush, but not square either, so it fits nicely under my fenders.

Pic update. I can't decide whether or not to get some Enkei 92's with Falken Azenis RT-615K tires or a shitty turbo kit. Lol I was originally thinking to get an eBay turbo kit, but it would be a shame to the build. And I blew up the stock D16 three times, so I probably shouldn't. And then with the turbo, I need Hondata or something to tune it, even though I've already got a chipped phearable.net ecu, and then just about every part in the kit is guaranteed to fail, effectively blowing my motor up. So my plan is to get some wheels and tires this summer, and then go to college. After summer, this build really will be slow. I'll put every penny into it. haha Every penny that I can afford.
