Default Idle Issues (Dashpot Diaphragm?)

Hey all. I'm having some idle issues. The synopsis goes like this:

If I attempt to cold-start the car with the dashpot diaphragm connected to vacuum, it either will not start, or starts for a split second and dies.

If I then remove the vac line from it, the car will start - but will idle very high (~2000 RPM).

If then, after the car has warmed up to operating temp, I re-connect the vac line to the dashpot, the car will idle smoothly at 1000 RPM.

Any ideas? I could obviously just leave it disconnected, but such a high idle is incredibly annoying.

Will it start up fine with everything connected once its warmed up?

Did this just start happening one day or what?

Any CEL codes coming up?

You might want to look into the EACV. Electronic Air Control Valve, it changes the amount of air bypassing the throttle body to maintain idle, unplugging your vacuum line is like doing the same thing.

The EACV is the first thing the helms manual says to troobleshoot (2nd is the Idle set screw but I woudn't mess with that at all). Which is a detailed process so you should search a bit to see if you can find a thread on it. But I can give you one of the easy tests, with the ignition turned to the on position unplug the EACV. Does it click when disconnected? If not it could be bad but thats is skipping a whole bunch of other steps.

Well, it didn't start doing this until I swapped a D15Z1 into it. Yesterday was the first day it did this. After it's warmed up, it'll start up on the first crank no problems.

No CEL codes - but I'll check out the EACV, thanks.
