Default The "unnamed Project" 1993 Civic Si Hatchback

Well after months and months of trying to find one i finally have yeah the rear quaters are shot but thats the only rust on the whole car. it is a real si kinda rare around here. The only thing that bothers me is that the pilot or throw out bearing is alittle loud. not sure what one it is. i let the car idle and you can hear the sound but when you push it in the sound gose away. Also its a Canada car is that some thing special?

I can guarantee you that with the amount of rust that I can see there's way more that you cannot see. Like the tip of an iceberg. I can also guarantee a lot of frozen nuts and bolts. Good luck with it.

Yeah well I finally found the car I been wanting since I was little and I have a body guy that owes me quite alot so he will do the work.

I'm trying to figure out where my sound is coming from on this car it's in the trans When the car is n there is a sound when you push the clutch in the sound goes away. The sound is the same in first and 2nd then goes away in 3rd-5th. Also when the clutch is about half way down the sound goes away. TOB or input shaft bearing? Any ideas

Well i had the car on the lift last week and i checked every thing.
The only rust on the car is the quarters and rockers so i ordered

i got both quarters and rockers from fixmyrust.com $163 shipped then since my front bumper has a huge gash in it i ordered a new front bumper, i can't seem to find the part number for the strips that go across the roof. Then a buddy at work had a set of seats he wanted to sell i got them they where sparco sprint juniors and all they need done is recovered which is easy for me for $25 Friday im picking up a spare P28 to chip also on friday im ordering my by spolier and front lip

Get that rust taken care of ASAP! Glad to see it's on its way out. PITA, though.

Is that a Canadian car? I don't see the Daytime Running Lights resistor in the back corner by the clutch MC.

Lots of rust in that engine bay as well. Cars from Canada have lots of rust. What are your plans?

Gonna be a huge money pit, but if you enjoy it, then that's all that matters.
There's rust all over, many components/brackets in the engine bay rusted out too.
Good luck with the build, but you should really get some plans into place because it will be very expensive to restore. List some ideas/plans you want other than fixing the exterior of course.

The bearing noise is the input shaft bearing in the transmission.

That thing is rusted bad, even mine isn't quite that bad. It's fixable, but the rust will come back through in about 6 months if it sees snow again, a few years if it only ever sees summer weather.

Good luck with you're build. I'm glad you were able to find the car that you were searching for. I love the 5th gen. hatch body style.

An FYI: I didn't have nearly that much rust showing and my dad and I had to build wheel wells from scratch after cutting the quarters out. Please check my build before you go investing a lot of money into this car. If you've never done body work before, make sure you sand down to metal well past where the rust has been cut away. Rust is forming under the paint even where you don't see the paint bubbling. The last thing you want to do is fix the rust and have more appear a year later. Also, buy some POR15 (here). It's your friend. And, a MAP gas torch. Torch EVERY suspension bolt before trying to remove them.

Also, keep an eye out for a cleaner SI. If worst comes to worst, you can always use this as a donor car.

POR15 on the inside of the panels and sanding to metal should limit the amount of rust that reappears. It's all about how methodical the removal is.

I'm going to be cutting all the old rust off and putting por15 so there won't be any rust yeah it's going to take some time but I'm with that

Good luck bringing that poor thing back to life.

Did you really just screw the lip on that way and put holes through the bumper?
