96 Accord engine surging/going dead upon acceleration when car is cold.
Hey guys. First time using here.
Few weeks back I woke up and got into my accord to run an errand. Cranked fine, Idled fine, and started driving the first few seconds fine. Started accelerating ( i had just changed into 3 gear I believe) and all the sudden the engine started surging (rpm jumping to 3 then falling to zero and it would repeat) and finally went dead. Did this randomly over a few weeks.
Our mechanic at work who services our truck fleet hooked my car up and ran and engine diagnostic and it came up about the cad. converter (i knew this would show for I have a pipe in its place for 4 years now), and the map sensor and egr valve coded.
Replaced MAP first and immediately it ran better and did for week. Then one night (car been sitting 8 hours) I got in it and it did the same stalling thing. WEll, we next replaced the EGR silinoid-again, stalled but did it harder or more frequently. Next replaced the EGR Valve and damn if it didn't do it IMMEDIATELY after I installed it. I am at a loss!! Don't have the money to keep replacing stuff! I mean, the mechanic said a bad fuel filter would code, as would bad wires/plugs (which I replaced last year). This is an odd situation.

If the rpms were going to 3 and then falling back to zero while your car was not moving in proportion to those rpms that might indicate a failing ignition control module since the icm supplies the readings for the tachometer.
it was moving , at lower speeds. It would sputter and jump and the rpm was doing that according to the sputter/surges/jumps.
ICM was what I thought it might be, but the computer test did not show that at all.

Now, its doing it even when coasting down a hill. I have now replaced the fuel filter and it is STILL doing it!!!!!!
So Annoying!
