hey guys so im rebuilding my gsr and was wondering if any one has re- used their old pistons. mine are in great shape for 250k. no abnormal wear on the skirts or anything. of course getting new bearings and rings already had the block and head machined and honed. dont really want to buy pistons since mine are in good shape.

also what about the connecting rod bolts? would they be ok to re-use or should the be replaced

 

250k on the bolts-just replace them man! They dont cost much but you know your going to beat on your new motor. The old pistons would be ok,but again why not upgrade to some itr pistons with the coating and bump compression .6 for $85..? Somebody will buy your old gsr pistons for $40-50 anyways

 

You could reuse them but a new oem set from the internet will only run you about 150 if you shop around including a ring set and about 10 per piston to get them pressed on and off the old rod if you reuse those. but the answer to your question yes you could if your strapped for cash.

 

Take your block and pistons to the machine shop to measure. You'll probably need to rebore in which case you need new pistons.
