P0720 is an automatic transmission trouble code.

Did the emissions tech explain the Air Injection failure to you? Did you ask?

A bad cat is suggested by the fact that both HC and NOx failed.

 

+1 sounds like the cat fell below threshold and is no longer efficient.

 

even though the test said PASS under Cat?

 

& no he just literally said "oh no bad bad " i told him whats wrong he just highlighted stuff and said "ok now go go "

 

You should ask many questions when you have an emissions test that fails.

The "pass' probably meant that he saw a cat in your exhaust system, not that the cat was good.

 

Call emissions place and ask why you received this response when you were seeking guidance on how to make things right.

 

oh i did ask him a lot of questions he just said i dont know and sent me to someone to get checked. -___-

You need to locate a more helpful worker there. Ask for a supervisor. Tell them that you too are interested in clean air and that you just need some basic guidance on the Air Injection failure.

 

only reason i say its a y8 is because its not the EM/cat combo in one

 

hes the only person working there unfortunatly...you live and learn...ill go back today though and ask him about it...hopefully he has more to say. i dont want to pay a mechanic for something the smog tech should have explained

This^ is what I'd do. Be polite and keep your composure. The Air Injection failure is almost certainly due to something he saw on the visual inspection.

 

in regards to your picture uploaded it said the countershaft sensor was a possibility.
i just replaced both speed/countershaft sensors because i thought it would fix my odometer(not moving) this was after doing the smog.

could the new countershaft sensor affect the emmisions?

 

most definetly!!

 

If you reset the ECU, does P0720 return?

P0720 could be caused by a bad countershaft speed sensor or by a problem in the circuit or ECU. Use a multimeter to do the electrical tests in the diagram.

Are you noticing any transmission performance problems?

Does the speedometer work but the odometer doesn't?

 

no the tranny feels fine nothing out of the ordinary.

and yeah the spedometor works just not the trip or mileage

 

This is just a speedometer/odometer problem. If the problem continues, replacing the speedometer unit or cluster would fix it.
