Icon2 90 Honda Accord-Fuel Problem

Some days my car will start without a problem and other days I use a mallet to tap fuel tank and it cranks without a problem. I also notice I am burning a lot gas. I brought a fuel pump, fuel strainer, and fuel filter a year ago and I keep 93 gas in my car. If I replace the fuel pump should I get the fuel tank cleaned...

I noticed I only have to hit fuel tank on really cold days, Today it was 50 degrees my car cranked up without a problem. The day before it was 26 degrees and I had to tap fuel tank..

Check the ground to the fuel pump.

When you turn the key to on, listen for the fuel pump to prime. If you do not hear it, test for voltage going to it.....you will have to cycle the key as once it goes to "on" the pump will only prime for ~3 seconds.

sounds like it could be a ground.. Possibly even a relay. Having to "tap" the fuel tank to get it to start doesnt really make sense, unless a ground is bad.

Also just a note... Save yourself some money. Dont use 93 fuel in your car. It is only reccomended for a high of 87. Any higher and you can actually cause carbon buildup and it "lessens" your mileage unless your engine is set up for a higher octane fuel.
