Wiring Help??
Folks,
We have a very nice '91 Honda crx si, with what appears on block to be a D-16-zc or z6 motor.
During finishing touches, we took car to Best Buy, to purchase and install new radio. Unfortunately, Best Buy tech did NOT do as spec by Honda, and install new ground. First we knew of it, wires burned. We have tried 3 other harnesses, none of which works...we have everything working but engine will not fire. We are told adapting OBD-1 conversion kit over to OBD-0 should do the trick??
We need to know? Also, we will be happy to purchase this conversion kit or needed components? We have access to variety of on board computer, if necessary?
Thanks,
Chris Sutton

My mistake-we have a D-16 A-6 motor in the '91 Honda crx si....it also has an older transmission...we replaced clutch-throwout bearing...believe it was SI trans from 88 or 89..
At any rate, we have a wiring problem needing ability to fire engine...all other components appear appropriately adapted..to old wiring harness, with cut back
wires (mistake). Again, we have 2 other wiring harnesses, and access to other computers if necessary to adapt.
Will the OBD-1 adaption to old OBD-0 cure our problem? What else would be necessary, and where might we purchase OBD-1 adapter kit?
thanks,

if you have a crx it orriginally is obd0. or did you buy it already with the obd0 to obd1 convertion?
what computer is in the car? pm6?
pm6 is the stock ecu and means you are running obd0.
i cant tell for sure but but it sounds like you cut your harness and put and obd1 to obd0 conversion onto your already obd0 car. i think this would be your problem on it not working.
but if you already are converted to obd1 i would keep it there. no sense going back.
and when you say the car wont fire, does it crank? are you getting fuel? and are you getting spark?
when you turn the key does the fuel pump prime?
also any check engine lights?

GPC,
thanks for trying to help-sorry for not being clear-
We took the car to Best Buy for Christmas, to buy and install a new radio-Best Buy did NOT run a new ground wire, as spec by Honda...so within around a month the wire group began to melt.
The car is '91 honda crx SI, and engine is D-16-A6, hooked to an older transmission, from '88 or '89 crx, we believe-we changed clutch and throwout bearing, so we know that.
We have tried 2 other wiring harnesses, from pick and pull, which we pulled ourselves and knew to be good-they don't match up.
We have everything hooked up but engine-lights, etc, all work. Engine won't turn over. Mistakenly, boys cut back specific wiring harness section running to
engine. Our question is, we have been told if we convert from OBD-0 to OBD-1
section, we can make engine run? I'm sure this is far too general a question, but that's where I need to begin? This is 2 years fighting with wiring..
fuel pump-prime, I'm not certain, but it does not turn over=mechanic says no spark? Engine lights I believe turn on...
thanks,
chris

...it is harness including engine, from underneath dash, and some dash instruments...hope this helps. Needless to say, it was a bundled group of wires..noticed first, tachometer malfunction, then lights. All that seems rectified, but engine will not turn over?

..we were told one of the harnesses was from an SI, but no way to prove, and it didn't button up...best I can tell you, jli...the other harness we pulled from a non-SI, I'm afraid, but no way to definitively be sure...except that didn't work...

sounds to me like best buy owes you a new car.
seriously tho. i have installed many stereos and not running a new ground (your adapter harness for the stereo connects to the factory ground) is not necessary. if your harness melted i would bet that the tech wired it wrong. have you checked your fuses?

d16a6 motor is the motor that belongs in a crx si its the obd0 motor there is no need to go to an obd1 harness thats not going to solve your problem.
the only engine harnesses that works is from a crx si or hf the rest from other crx's wont work their mpfi
if the car was running before and its not now, then pull the carpet go to the ecu and look at all the wires going to the ecu, if any of those wires coming from the ecu going to the engine got fried, yes your car's not going to start so look their first. if some wires are fried then get an uncut obd0 engine harness from another crx si or hf and try starting from there. if you have zero burnt wires then you need to see if you have spark and fuel

hmmmnnn...I am seeing some conflicting info on what year-cars this wiring harness can be taken from?
I am seeing listed same harness from '91 honda civic Ex 4dr sedan,
and from '91 honda civic crx SI 3door hatchback,
and from '91 honda civic 2 door coupe.
What do the guys here think I am to make of this?
I am also seeing (D-16, A6 motor) that '88, '89, '90 honda civic crx SI wiring harness will not fit? Some say they will?
thanks,
chris

O.K.
Hope you guys are still able to help-here's what we know-we need INTERIOR HARNESS FROM ECU to FUSE BOX...all other wiring has been accomplished. This appears to be quite a lot of wires.
The reason is, we have, as I stated, 3 wiring harnesses-one will run the fuel pump-no spark, one will provide spark-no fuel pump...question-is there another way to get both spark and fuel pump?
We have several harnesses which we can sell after finishing, and extra under hood fuse panes.
What originally caused problem, as I stated, was radio wire cooked rear, front harnesses.
Rear harness is totally wired-lights all work. Front lights work. Tach now bounces when
spark occurs, with one harness. We just can't get BOTH spark and fuel pump.
Anyone been through all this before?
thanks,
chris

yes, now we can tell-it is the INTERIOR HARNESS that goes from FUSE PANEL
TO ECU...
this appears to be quite extensive wiring harness...what do we call this harness, and does anyone know where I can find one? It also does have extension that runs up to engine, but is NOT "engine harness"...?
thanks,
Chris Sutton
