B16 swap into 98 ex auto civic - engine harness question
What's up guys. Been doin a lot of research on wiring as I have almost every part to drop my b16 in my 98 ex civic. My only concern is that I stumbled across two separate posts (dated back to like '06) stating that you should not use the auto ex engine wire harness because it simply doesn't work, and they didn't know why.
My question, is there any validity to that statement? Do I need to dish out $150 just to get the manual harness? Thanks!

You need to be more specific. Which B16 are you planning on swapping in? The B16A is either OBD0 or OBD1, depending on which one you get. The B16A2 is OBD2B, coming from the 99-00 Civic SI.
A lot of the plugs from an ex harness won't plug and play. Read this thread for the fixes as you might as well just use the dx harness and save some money

it should work you need an obd2a-obd1 conversion harness. i said the obd2b route because for emissions your going to have to run obd2 to pass. the obd1 ecu does not work on the diagnostic plug they plug into. you will need to buy a conversion harness to make the dizzy plug and play. Running an Obd1 ecu u will not need to wire the knock sensor or secondary o2 sensor as the ecu does not use these sensors.

Okay just checked and my IACV plug is already converted to the 2 wire plug. Basically I have a 5 speed ex stock w/ a y8 that was already converted from auto to manual. So seeing as I'm dropping in an obd1 ready swap, is it true that because its an auto engine harness my swap won't work?
That is my question. Thanks

no it will work. you need a conversion harness for the ecu. and the obd1 dizzy will need a conversion harness or you would have to swap internals . it would be easier to buy the 20-30 dollar harness and the 30-40 dollar obd2a-obd1 conversion harness
I talked to Katman about that last night and again today. He can't remember exactly what the issue was and hadn't personally tried using an automatic EX harness himself. Both of us feel quite confident it wouldn't be a big deal to sort out as long as one had the factory service manual and knew how to read wiring diagrams. Our guess was a few things needed to be moved around.
