Rebuilding my first H22a4. Any Tips or pointers?
Bought a 98 base Prelude. It apparently through a rod. There is a inside hole right under header. I reached in and pulled out the whole rod no piston. So @ that point it was cylinder 3 I took that plug out and took a long skinny punch and pushed the piston down. Then I put a socket on one of the cams and turns it about 4 times with no hang ups. Did the same with the back cam and same thing. So I believe the head is reusable. I picked up a complete short block that is near mint condition. So that's on the engine stand. Need a couple more bux to get arp head studs and a timing belt kit. I have built a couple 302 mustang motors but this is my first DOHC. So any advice tips or tricks would be very welcome. Thank you
Really no feedback. Guess I am winging it and hoping for best. But if some could give me a few pointers or tips. It would make me feel a whole lot better about this build.
What tips are you looking for? If you are familiar around an engine, then its pretty much straight forward with the DOHC.
What specifically are you asking?
I can post pics and links to my hearts desire but unless you are more specific, then its kind of hard to reply.
Here is a base to start with: Link - http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/t.../photo_10.html

Two things, first, make sure you use the correct head gasket for the block, i.e. H22a and H22a4 have different gaskets.
Second, go up to the stickies, and in the FAQs, there are links to the factory service manuals, download them and read up on it all, everything you could possibly need to know is in there.

So it kicked a rod and you think the head is resuable without taking it off to look at it?
Hmmm...... take the head off, my guess its trashed from piston pieces hitting it. But I've been wrong before. Depends on how quickly it blew up.

Piston is still in cylinder all in one piece. I pushed it down with something. Still all in one piece with rings and all. The rod broke free from it when it was in the lower end of the cylinder. Shined light down in there and piston is all in one piece. So once this weather brakes I am I am going to pull the head and see exactly what I'm working with

how do you know it was at the bottom? do you have a monitoring device i am unaware of?
you need to take the head off and inspect it.

No I reached in and pulled the rod out. Looked down spark plug hole and piston was low in the cylinder. I pushed is down a little. Be4 I turned on both cams 900 degrees and there was no hang ups. So hoping for the best. If the head is messed up then I'll just replace it. Just trying to salvage what I can.
