Default fuel problem

My 92 Accord DX won't start, getting strong spark and turning over good but seems like not getting gas. Suspecting fuel pump is out. Was hard starting a time or two before the total no start now. Don't have a gauge or good means to test the fuel pump pressure or flow. Before towing to shop is there some simple troubleshooting I might try to do to determine if fuel pump is actually the problem? Any advice/comment appreciated. Thanks.

You can remove the fuel line from the end of the fuel rail and turn the key into the on position. Right before it cranks. And check for any gas coming out of the line. If nothing happens you can replace the fuel filter and check all fuses/relays before replacing the fuel pump

Before I remove the fuel line from the fuel rail do I need to relieve the pressure in the fuel line? If so, what's the method to do so? thanks

Doesn't the pressure bleed off? Just take the hose off at the fuel rail. Also if your pump is bad it's super easy to replace don't waste your money by having a shop do it.

Not sure what you mean by pressure bleeding off? When/how does that happen? You saying just take the hose off the fuel rail and don't worry about relieving any pressure?
If it turns out I need to replace the fuel pump, well it's in the fuel tank and so would need to drop the fuel tank to replace it so not really super easy, for me anyway... although not too excited about having to spend the money to have a shop do it, that's for sure.
thanks

Bleeder valve should be on the right side of the fuel rail when your facing the engine. If I remember correctly you will two wrenches to release the pressure

If I do manage to bleed the fuel pressure and then remove the fuel line and then turn on the key but don't get any gas coming out the line, and if I want to check the fuse/relay for the fuel pump, where do I find the actual fuse for the fuel pump, or is there just a relay but not a fuse?

You can also remove the gas cap to relieve fuel system pressure. If i remember correctly the forth gen accords the tank has to be dropped to access the fuel pump. Don't hold me to it I'm not entirely sure. But you can always remove the back seat to see if there is an access panel for the pump

I did tried googling to find if there as actual fuse for the fuel pump but came up with nothing. I do have a Chilton manual for this range of Hondas but it's not real helpful either. There is a wiring diagram in the book along with fuse block locations with apparent key describing which fuse is for what, but no fuse shown for fuel pump. And looks as if there might not be an separate relay for the fuel pump, but instead the fuel pump uses the main relay? Also, the Chilton manual mentions nothing about an access to the fuel pump from behind the back seat, just talks about having to drop the fuel tank for access. Any more comments welcome, thanks again.

Well one thing i have learned for sure us that you need the Chilton and haynes guides. They go hand in hand. As for fuse locations im not sure on the forth gen accords

Shouldn't you be able to hear the fuel pump and or relay when you turn the ignition on? Anybody?

Yes. Its not a Chevy though so the fuel pump isn't going to whine very loud. Its quiet and the first time you turn the key into the "run" position, the fuel pump should run for three seconds.

After a little research I discovered one common cause for the symptoms I was having, and something to check maybe before assuming a failed fuel pump with these model Accords, is a bad main relay. After listening for the fuel pump and the relay clicks as was suggested, I went ahead and pulled the relay and inspected it. Sure enough several of the soldered contacts on the circuit board had cracks, a few of them quite obviously. I'm strongly convinced at this point this was the cause of my issue, and nothing wrong with the fuel pump itself.

Yeah then there you go. Replace the relay and you should be set
