I got a 2012 Civic LX with 9800 miles but there has been this pinging noise after I’m done driving and the car is off, it is not a constant pinging noise it’s more like every 3-4 mins 1 ping. does anyone have any idea what this could be?

sometimes my car smells like its burning too idk what the deal is. is this normal?

sorry if I sound like a noob, I’m just really stressed out because the car is new and I really don’t want to have to deal with this already

well after doing alot of research and reading tons of other fourms and asking around i belive the pinging/dripping noise i hear when i turn my car off is the downpipe, catalyic converter reacting to heat disapation, as it cools. ie metal contrats when getitng cooler, so its the metal settling back into form.

and for the smell, i belive this is from the coating they spray on new cars to keep them looking fresh and prevent rust.

do you guys think this could be true? any insight would be cool, thanks in advance.

 

Sounds about right for the pinging, and the burning smell is the cat warming up. If you don't run it until it's warm, you get a skunky odor from the cat, it is normal.

 

Wow. You've never heard metal expand/contract before?

"pinging" is what happens to cars when unburnt gasoline detonates outside of the normal combustion cycle. So if you're hearing this 3-4 minutes after you shut off you car, then yeah...it's certainly not "pinging".

Is this your first car you've ever ridden in or something?

and to answer your smart *** little remark at the end of your post NO! I have had plenty of cars and ridden in plenty, this is the only one that I have seen this problem.
