98 Civic/D16Y8 swap - need help hooking up VTEC
hello just bought a 98 civic coupe a few months ago. So far i just have been doing appearance mods to it but i want to start working on the engine a little.
Ok so the car was a DX. the engine has been swapped to a D16y8 and they didnt hook up VTEC. Now from what i have researched I think they put the d16y7 Intake on the Y8 so the wiring harness would work. The reason i think this is because the IAC is mounted under the throttle not on the back of the intake.
so here are my questions
So i have read u can just run two wires and hook up vtec but how will it know when to kick in if the ECU witch is a P2E is a non VTEC ECU.
Would it be better to get a Y8 intake, throttle body, wiring harness and ECU?
Im trying to keep it OBD2 im not looking for performance much i just want everything to work as it was stock
Ill try and get some pixs up tomorrow. Im some what new to hondas but i am a quick learner so dont be hateing if i ask a stupid question
