What is the best timing belt and water pump for a b16?
Let me know what you guys have used or use and where you bought them from

I'm not being a cheap *** I just want to know of anyone has good experiences with aftermarket pumps and belts honestly I want what's best

By oem do u guys mean the ones from dealers or from a parts store?

Definitely go OEM.

 

If this is a daily driver, I would suggest using OEM parts.

 

Honda oem belts are made by Gates, right now im using a Gates Blue racing belt and honda water pump.
definitely don't go cheap on these parts.

 

New Honda pump, Gates or Honda belt. Make sure to replace the tensioner while you're in there as well.

 

It happens that also im changing my timing belt and water pump. (OEM)

But whay sould i change the tensioner? dont think its mentioned in the maintenance schedule.

Because you're down there, the part is cheap, and it's one more (simple) step. When you replace tires, you replace valve stems preventatively. When you replace your valve cover gasket, you replace your spark plug grommets preventatively.

Replacing a timing belt and water pump is a time consuming, slightly complicated task. You might as well go ahead and replace the tensioner while you're down there just to be safe. Otherwise, when it does decide to go out, you just have to go through the entire process again to replace it, assuming it doesn't take your motor with it.

 

save a couple bucks and go gates on belt. pump honda all the way

 

Just curious has anyone ever seen a Gates water pump fail?

I've used them for years and never had a problem.

I get the Gates kits from RA.

As for why change everything in there? Well as said you have it apart and it's not that much more work.

To put it in perspective. People always say "Highway Miles" in for sale ads. So if a car was driven 105k miles at 60 mph at 3000 rpm, the crank will have turned 315 million revolutions/cams half that. Why would you leave a under $10 seal in there?

I have also found it best to just order the front(left) engine mount when you order TB parts. It's going to be bad anyway.

 

Get your pump from Honda. The aftermarket pumps are a totally different inferior design that will cause leaking, poor performance, heartache and suicidal thoughts.
Also, use a proper torque wrench (inch lb.) and great care torquing the delicate pump to spec. Make sure the block gasket mating surface is immaculate. I've been known to put a very thin bead of HondaBond along the pump o-ring.

 

What inferior designs? The water pump is a very simple design. The aftermarket pumps are copies. While some will no doubt use cheap parts I don't think anyone is redesigning the pump.

BTW Honda isn't making the pump they are sourcing them. Same as the belt.
