Default FITV retrofit

I bought a throttle body because I want to try boring it out and cleaning it up but it comes with an FIT valve. I dont currently have one on my 97 ex. Is there a way to retrofit it on my car? Is there any benefit? Or would it be possible to take it off the TB?

If your car runs good without one there would be no real benefit to adding one. I blocked mine off for two full years and never had any issues.

There should be 3 bolts mounting the FITV to the TB. You can then ether make or purchase a FITV block off plate and not worry about it.

To be honest with you I have never seen a CD Accord that didn't come with the FITV. Do you have an aftermarket TB on there now?

Made a plate out of 1/4" aluminum and cut a gasket from a sheet of 1/32" gasket paper.

Crude but effective!

Ok. Thats pretty straight forward.
Its just the small, odd metal parts that are hard to find. Did you grab the plate off something or find scrap metal?

I go down to the local scrap/recycled metal yard and they sell it by the pound. They stock pile it until they get enough to make it worth while to ship. There is always a fair amount of plate in the pile. It's the same place I get all of the 2" sched 40 aluminum pipe for my intake manifolds.

soo quick question..if you have a FITV and you remove it (either eliminate it or diffrent TB) will you have any idle issues or any issues at all? i live in minnesota so i dont want to incounter odd problems when its -5f

and are the water lines running to the FITV just to keep it from freezing up? or do they erve a greater purpose?

Thanks!

I live in North Eastern Canada and ran my Accord without a FITV for two full years without issue.

As for the coolant lines. The FITV is a mechanical valve, not electric. The coolant lines are run to the FITV because that is how the valve is actuated. It has a wax ball on the coolant end of the valve body as the engine coolant temp rises and flows through the FIR valve body. The plunger/valve closes in correlation with the rising ECT's.

Maybe thats the reason for my idling issue...
Since I bought a new throttle body I'm gonna restore it the best I can, bore out the opening and then calibrate the TPS. I hoping for a big difference in my car afterwards. Ill keep the FITV on there I think. Sometimes Ill go a day or two without driving my car in this cold weather and it has enough trouble starting afterwards. A few seconds of cranking.

My car with/without the FITV takes a second or two to start in this cold weather. Its been about -15 the last week up here in Minnesota, remove/leave. Just a preference
