Default ANY ONE RUNNING ON 85MM STOCK B20 SLEEVES

Hello everyone I'm just looking for some advice on running a 85mm b20 stock sleeved block that a guy is selling her on HT. my head is already completely built with pro2 cams and extensive head work. And I think this block would be a good combo for the price. From what I've read and heard the b20 blocks don't hold up to well especially a 85mm ,however I have heard different from reputable honda builders. It's all in the tune ! Has any one had any issues with this bore size with the b20 ? I appreciate any guidance or input thx ! Below is the link check it out . The guys name is mike cool dude and answers all my questions regarding the block !

Isn't this kind of playing with fire?? A B20 already has thin sleeves, making them even thinner doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I think OP should take ALL M0T0R's experience with an acception....he tunes his own motor(s) to I'm assuming a very high standard and probably pays closer attention to it than your average "enthusiast."

If I wanted to run 85, I would sleeve a block. But thats just me..

You're correct.

I dont daily drive the car as much as I used to.. It does have alittle over 2k miles on the new setup.. But every friday i'd take the laptop with me, when I'd drive to and from work and watch everything..

B20 sleeves are weak on the lower RPMS, because of their resistance to knock.. I dont believe RPMS is what kills these things, but everyone will have their own opinion. To me, Daily driven a car thats pushing the limits is what poses the most problem.. We hear the tune is everything all the time. But how many people actually believe that?? And follow through with it.

They can certainly survive at 85mm, even with high compression and rpms. I think that the tune and fuel quality is #1 at keeping it alive. Probably not the best idea for someone starting out and please realize that if something goes wrong you pretty much have a throw away block

Thanks everyone for providing your input, this helped out allot. I decided not to go with the 85mm block. I just dont want to risk loosing 1000 dollars. If i knew how to tune my own set up like ALL MOTOR i would have definitely considered getting it. But now im going to have to be patient and do my build the right way. Piecing it little by little with good quality parts and proper research. As we all know this takes some self discipline to do lol, but in the end i think it will be best. I just picked up some BNIB 84MM Darton MID sleeves for b series for a good deal here on HT. Now i will be able to have a good foundation to start. Now i have to find a BC 92MM crank, but first have to save a little $$$$. Thanks again for everyones input.

93 pump gas.

I took it to IFO in oct? with only 23 miles on the setup, Street tires, @ 30 psi, no burn out. My best time was a 13.3 @ 110mph? 2.5 60', I was blowing tires off through the 1/8.. I had other traps, 109, 112, and 110 was where my mph was between. I now have slicks so i expect to go back. This was just a very good street tune of mine, on my drop in settings for my Reaper cams. Ign was mildly tuned, via plug reading. I'll be heading to the dyno to finish it up, car should make 240+whp for sure..

The car is far from stock, far. lol..

I dont daily it hardly, its more or less a car i'll drive on Fridays or maybe to the track or on a saturday. It's my Shops Racecar, and 2k miles already, and its kindof like..why am i putting all this stress on the setup that i'm already pushing the limits of .. So i bought a G8.

I'll be back on the dyno here in the coming weeks when i can get a opening and i'll dial in the cams, ign and play around with some stuff i wanna test.. Oh ya, full exhaust on the car too.

b20 blocks are a dime a dozen. Save money and dont rush.. Find a nice block and just do 84 or 84.5. Plenty of people have made 230-250whp using that bore. It just takes a good cam profile, Good tuning, and the correct combo of parts.. I've been tuning cars for along time, around 10 years now.. I learned on my own car, and took my time, learning from some of the best in the world.. people like John Vega, Chris Harris, Marshall(92typer), St00pid, Kenny(turboGixxer), Chris delago , Joesph Davis, arthur v... these guys help me, and still help me to this day.. some people are geared torwards tuning their own cars, others just want someone else to do it.

Thats exactly what my car is used for just weekend driving and track days, i just recently converted to COP with K series coils with the AEM EPM. It was a fairly simple install, however the hardest part was figuring out how to navigate through AEM tuner to change all the settings for COP but 8 hours later i finally got it to start lol. I just got a stealth vibrant 3' muffler with a custom 3 in exhaust from the Skunk2 Alpha Header all the way back sounds good but loud lol. I posted some pics to show you all how it looks.
