Default Tensioning Serpentine Belt (No Tensioner)

So I've determined that my belt needs adjusting (get a screech on startup when its cold). Spec for the belt is 10mm of deflection with 10 KG of force and I can quite easily push it further than that by hand. Anyway, this is a CF4 Accord that has no tensioner. It only has A/C and Alternator, and it seems that the alternator has some form of adjustment, but not like I'm used to. One side of its mount is the usual bolt-based pivot, but the other has some kind of jack screw setup. Not sure what I need to loosen and what I need to turn to adjust the tension.

Anyone got any experience with this?

Loosen bolt 10, should be a 12mm.. then tighten 5 which I believe is 10mm.

Same set up on my 91 accord, should be fairly easy to do. Good luck!

Well, the screech isn't the belt. Got someone else to start it with ears on engine and it comes from the clutch area. My guess is pilot/throwout bearing, yay. Weird it only ever does it on cold startup, never once the engines warm.

After cranking. Kinda like the starter stayed on momentarily.
Only when cold.

Sounds like you were right on the money on the starter. The screech will 'move' depending on when I release the key. If i let it go early the noise happens just as the engine comes to life, little late and its well after it starts.

Anyone know if the starters are a pig to get out?

That's probably not what it is. That's more of an Urban Myth.

Take the two bolts off the slave cylinder.....on the left side of the slave cylinder...on the ball piece side..put some multi grease on it. Put it back on. See if the sound goes away.

Nah they are easy. Just disconnect the battery, then theres twos wires that go to the starter - one that is unbolted - the other unclips. Then all you have left is two 14mm bolts to undo then its out

Actually, before you do what I said, try pressing the clutch in and see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't, then ignore what I said.

Noise is the same no matter where the clutch is. It always happens after I let the key out. (If I ride the key after the engine starts briefly, it won't happen until I release the key). So pretty sure its the starter.

lol I was basing it on the fact that you said it's coming from the clutch area.
