Question, whats the difference between just a 140v welder and gas tanked? would a gasless work just as good as a gased welder?, i cant really get a answer from reading the FAQ

Flux core welding uses a coated wire that spatters very heavily when it is welded. It is often very unsightly in the car world and you have to grind off all of the spatter. It's a real mess.

With a gas mix you can get rid of the coated wire and use a standard MIG wire. It will produce much nicer welds with a lot less spatter.

Gas is a little bit more expensive up front, but worth it in the end.

It takes a little more experience to get a good weld with the flux core, imo. Hence the reputation for gas being stronger. There are plenty of guys out there getting perfectly good penetration with flux wire though, it's just not as pretty.

Unless you're welding outdoors where wind is an issue, do yourself a favor and go gas. It's well worth the investment. The good news is that you can convert most wire feed welders to MIG with a simple kit.

If you're just noodling around at home a 20lb bottle is fine. I just exchanged mine today for $30
