Default Help Please! Wiring Guide for Electronic Ignition Module Install (Igniter)

'89 Honda Civic

I'm replacing the Electronic Ignition Module (Honda Part Number: Igniter unit kit 06302-PT2-000) inside the distributor.

I do not know how to reconnect the wires. The Igniter has 4 prongs (see pic).

I have 4 wires: 1.Green 2.Black 3.Black w/yellow stripe 4.White w/blue stripe (see pic)

These colors do not match the colors in the Honda manual. I read on other forums this probably means the distributor is an after-market.

I need to know which wire connects to which prong. I have searched the web and repair manuals. Does anyone have any idea?

When you put the ignitor in place, it should be fairly obvious which wires go where. One goes on the side (the only wire on that side), and then one goes on the opposite-side front, then with two left, one wire should be a little bit longer, and it goes to the middle.

this is what it should be with the OEM distributor - since your wire colors are different, you must have an aftermarket distributor and who knows which wire goes where - you probably need to trace the wires - on the OEM distributor, the wires go here:

white with blue stripe - internal - from igniter to coil

blue - is in the 2-wire distributor connector on the engine harness and goes to the tach

black/yellow is power - is also in the 2-wire connector on the engine harness - comes from the ignition switch and splits with one wire going to the igniter and the other to the coil

white - is in the other distributor connector on the engine harness - splits into 2 wires inside the harness and runs to the ECU at pins B15 and B17

looking at your pictures, i believe what you are calling yellow with blue stripe is probably white with blue stripe - what you are calling black appears to me to be blue - black/yellow is pretty obvious - a lot of aftermarket distributors have the igniter wire green with yellow stripe (like OBD1 distributors) instead of the OEM white

Post edit:

The diagram below shows how to connect the igniter unit wires, except you don't have a Wht wire because it is a Yel/Grn wire in your distributor.

Wires discolor over time, so for the wire colors you listed:

Grn = Blu
Blk/Yel = Blk/Yel

You'll need to look carefully to distinguish the Yel/Grn wire from the Wht/Blu wire.

I have a rebuilt distributor from a d15b2 (crx dx) Heres a pic of the wires. If you're looking at the icm with the single prong to the left of you and the three prongs facing you, it's wired like this:
From left to right

Single - green
1 - yellow/black stripe
2 - black/yellow stripe
3 - yellow/green stripe

(Description is b/c I had trouble with pic, but didn't delete in case is issue with it still.)

Edit:*(If you look under the protective coating of what you say is the single black wire, I think you will find it to be the yellow/green wire, that black is the heat shrink.)*

I got it!!

Thank you so much everyone, especially Tim512001!! The picture was a great help. And, yes, you were correct that I was calling it "black" because of the protective coating. That made all the difference!

I really appreciate all the help. Thank you so much!
