1/8" gap between axle housing and tranny housing
So I've searched EVERYWHERE, asked friends looked all over online. I've done swaps mainly b series and some d series... But I've never came across this problem before. I've got a 98 civic DX coupe 5spd manual, it didn't have the original motor in the car, so when I swapped my friends stock EK DX hatch with a JDM type R swap, I used his stock d16y7 swap in my car for my daily driver. Everything was fine till one day I was having a clicking sound coming from the tranny, a friend sold me his EG DX tranny he had laying around for dirt cheap, and after installing the tranny I realize there is an 1/8" gap between the tranny housing and axle housing on the driver side. I tried forcing it in many ways like people said to do online, I tried greasing it, I even removed the c-clip and nothing.. It still has the 1/8" gap. A friend told me that recently he got a tranny/axle seal and he noticed his came with a "flared" ending and maybe that's my problem.. I googled around about this flared tranny/axle seal and it led me back here and I read someone stating something about axle lengths and tranny/axle seals being different, but my PMs were not responded to at all, this is my daily driver and I have a baby on the way. I also did notice the oil doesn't leak in my drive way, but you can see its been leaking while I was driving due to the 1/8" gap. If anyone has any help they could send my way I would appreciate it very much.
It goes all the way in and it's drivable except the 1/8" gap causes it to leak oil while driving. Its the stock 98' DX axle that came with the car, I even tried the EG axle from my brothers EJ1 coupe, and it's got the same 1/8" gap
thats weird if 1/8" inch if it matches up perfect on hub side... like I mean goes on n **** n drives. Beyond my knowledge. All I know is I needed b series tranny side axle, got wrong one didn't go in to meet splines, got new one went in like budder. Hope ya figure it out.
Yea I'm leaning towards maybe finding out about this "flared" tranny seal and hoping that's gonna solve my problems. But thanks for trying to help, it appears no one knows the answer to this problem of mine :/
turns out i replaced the tranny axle seal, and fixed the problem! as for the gap, it still there, but alot of people said they have a gap too. but no more leaks
