I have a 2005 Acura MDX with factory rear dvd. It has been working fine until a few weeks ago. The problem i am having is that no picture shows on the rear dvd screen any more when playing a movie. I can hear the audio but no picture. if i change it to the radio, i can see the radio stations on the screen and it also shows the DVD chapter's. So since i can see radio stations and dvd chapter's, this leads me to believe the LCD display works.. Any thoughts or advice i what to do. I asked my local acura dealer and they want $500 to send it out for service or $2000 for a new unit.

Video "pickup" in DVD transport is bad or disconnected, I would drop the unit and make sure all connection, [plugs/clips] at connected properly, pay close attention to any leads plugged into circuit boards, even unplug and plug them back in.

You can replace with an aftermarket unit for much less, if yours is toast.

I have "fixed" more then a few overheads by just making sure all the connections are good, vibration can knock them loose. 94

 

I pulled the DVD player out and checked all the connections, all looked good. I can certainly do it again just to be safe. I am not sure how to remove the LCD unit from the top of the car to check the other end, do you know how to drop the LCD screen?

Turns out to be a bad video board on the video output. Go aftermarket for less.
