Icon2 Bought a new DD :)

Long story short, I bought an 02 Cavalier LS SPORT for gas mileage ect for work, well before owning it for a month the PS pump went and the tranny dropped on christmas eve so I took a huge loss and sold it for $600. I ended up picking up my second Honda a week later, A 1997 Accord LX 5 Speed but I'm a little confused on what I got, which gen, engine ect. Its not Vtec so? I had a 87 CRX before with a d15a3. Car idles at 450-500 rpm when warm which doesnt seem normal, dirty IACV? Runs great otherwise and to me it was a steal at $700. Any ideas on the idle? It has 166k on it and I plan on replacing the timing belt and waterpump along with a tranny flush asap but any ideas on the idle? Thanks

It is a 5th Gen OBD2B with the SOHC F22B2 engine.

That is really low for idle. Someone has probably been playing around with the idle speed screw or idle stop screw on the throttle body. There is a procedure for setting the base idle.

I know I posted the procedure around here somewhere.

Posted it on another site...so here it is....

Here is the manual step by step for adjusting the throttle cable, you never asked.... but I posted just in case.....

How to adjust the base idle via the idle adjustment screw.

Best of luck!

Awesome thanks for the idle adjustment information, this site is incredibly helpful and I'm very glad I joined.

I'll adjust the idle tomorrow, I wish there was something I could to gain a significant increase in power but I've heard the SOHC's are useless so I'll be on the lookout for another crx if I don't build another rx7, thanks again.

What are your goals and budget? I've seen everything from 160whp to 400+whp with a SOHC F series block.

Who says that they are useless? You must be listening to those small cc VTEC B series guys. The ones who are always wanting more displacement! The SOHC are definitely not useless. There are a few things that you can do to get power out of a Non VTEC SOHC F series..... It really depends on what you want to do to it and how deep your pockets are. You can boost it or stay Naturally Aspirated.

Check the Accord forum out a bit more and you will see that the SOHC F series is a pretty healthy base to start from. That being said, the H Series is pretty much a drop in swap for your Accord. If DOHC VTEC is more to your taste there is that Ave. to look down as well.
