I was in 2nd gear doing a WOT pull and hear a pop...followed by a lot of metallic rattling...dropped the tranny and this is what I found. Not sure what specific parts I need to take pictures of. K20Z3 tranny.

2nd gear broke (typical in the K). Debris from that likely caused the LSD to break.

You need a new mainshaft, countershaft 2nd gear, and LSD. More than likely need more than that but I can't say without having it in front of me.

 

How typical is this, kinda makes me want to get a tranny built for my driving style

 

looks like your making around 5-600 hp or it wheel hops like a bitch lol.

 

buy a new trans and keep that one for parts.

 

those are not cracks in the case, just from casting.


would be cheaper and easier to just get a known good transmission and keep this one for parts or part out the rest of it like said above me.

Only ~360. And I did get a lot of wheel hop at the track on street tires in the past (like a year ago) when I was making ~300. But it was only 1st gear..

I have always used the White cap Honda MTF.

 

And then somebody say Amsoil kill tranny , sorry for you man but like Fliptard say is best to buy another and save this for spare. I see your syncros is fine, hope that mine be like that .
