Reupholster Sunshade
I have searched the forums but have not seen a DIY. My sunshade for the sunroof is all torn up and looks like junk. I have a 97 civic EX. I seen somewhere where you have to pull the entire sunroof assy out. Is there a better way to reuphoster it without removing the entire assembly out? Anyone do this?
LOL i guess ill just rip the sunshade out then. Some scissors and some elbow grease. BTW my headliner is perfect just a little dirty. I wouldt mind doing it if it was just pulling the headliner down but to remove the entire sunroof assembly its not worth it to me.
It's not very difficult to remove the moonroof glass in order to access and remove the sunshade. Just keep track of the location of the metal spacers used to keep the glass flush with the roof and re-install the same way.
The sunshade is masonite/particle board-like and its components are held together by tape and short staples. The top of the sunshade is waterproofed with a black paper. I replaced the latter with house roofing paper. Upon reassembly, use a spray adhesive that will hold up to high heat.

Removing the glass can get you to the shade without removing anything else inside the car? How does that work? I need to redo mine and it will save me time. It's late and I'm probably babbling, making no sense.

I'll post diagrams/steps showing how to remove the sunshade.
Complete steps 1-9 in the two diagrams below, but in step 9, there's no need to remove the glass bracket or drain channel rod slider, just the nut and rail holder A. The moonroof wrench is not needed.
The last diagram is included just to remind you to keep track of the number and locations of shims found when you remove the glass in step 5. Re-install the shims exactly as they were upon removal of the glass.

This is a great and useful thread. Sadly, Hondas are plagued with peeling and torn sunshades, sunvisors, and headliners. Mine is no exception. Already redid my sunvisors, now it's time to tackle the sunshade. Thanks OP
I had a similar problem and I also did not want to remove the glass. This is just a daily car, not a show car. I simply cut out some fabric I got down at the fabric store, and glued the center of it to the center of the sunshade. Then I slowly glued (using 3m Fabric glue) a little at a time until I got to the edges. I used a toothpick, rubbed some more glue on the edge then folded it over the top. Does it look perfect? No. Does anyone every notice it's got a little wrinkle on one side? No. Good enough for me, and took less than 2 hours from purchase, cutting, and gluing. Fabric is same color as roof so no one has noticed. Done about two years ago without any issues.
